This is SO poorly made. Who on earth is the lady in the background? We see her in all of these odd little stories!

The aunt should have paid for a hotel from the beginning. Op is NTA for turning her lying, cheating sister away. Just because she has kids doesn't negate what she did. The aunt had no right to offer up Ops place for her to stay. Ops sister made her choice. Now it's time for the consequences.

Oh my insert relative here needed this. Even if you didn't give it to said relative. Do this for a lit of her stuff and stop giving her a credit card or any money. If she needs groceries put a set amount on a prepaid card and when she starts to complain. Tell her when she starts earning money and is willing to replace the things she's stolen. Repeat to het they were stolen! When she argues tell her that you will start giving her things away until there's nothing left. Then perhaps she will understand. If you have a spare room in the meantime put all your belongings in it with a lock and alarm if you can.

Geeze imagine the trama this poor teen has gone through. I can just imagine him in therapy "I had lived in a tent when I was 15 because my drug addict parents couldn't get a place for me to live in. After they were arrested for assault I went to live with my uncle. I mean, my uncle tried but by then I was just more comfortable on my own then trying to be part of family. At least I didn't have to worry about being abandoned that way." It's just so messed up what he went through.

#3, NTA, go Very Low Contact with them, and DON'T tell them where you're going. If they find out and try to harass you, record everything they say and do, in case you need to file a restraining order. #4, you have every right to refuse entry into your home of someone with a proven track record of being destructive. Tell them that THEY can start hosting (and holding responsibility for) all future family gatherings.

#1, NTA, you warned your brother that if he ever brought it up again, you'd tell her...and oh, look, HE brought it up again! #2, NTA, he's an insecure manbaby. It's not about the "value" of the degree but rather a celebration of a major milestone in someone's life. At his age, a master's degree is a major milestone, and at the daughter's age, so is a high school graduation. If he cannot deal with celebrating her accomplishments--and indeed her place in the family's life--then HE has no place in their family life.

S1 - Not all that thrill with OP wanting to throw away a lot of money, but in the end, it is his decision. Willing to bet the parents are willing to exchange the money for their son to outlive them, but since it is not an option, I can see their disappointment of that money going down the drain.

you are the asshole but not for that reason. first, that is a coping mechanism called escapism, and c is average and I think it's wild that no one seems to know that and grounds their children for grades like that.

I mean ya kinda YTAH. She’s seeing ALL these other kids having these amazing experiences but she doesn’t get to do anything exciting, she literally went to work with you. Ya maybe she shouldn’t have wrote a fictional story & deserves that grade but it doesn’t sound like you put in any effort into doing anything remotely fun/exciting, other than going to work. How much could she write about going to work? So grounding her til her grade is up bc she had ZERO material to work with is a dick move 🤷🏽‍♀️ & half your fault. You could have literally taken her to see a movie or took her on a hike or taught her to do something like fix something around the house, literally ANYTHING.

I think anything 9th grade and bellow should be allowed to BE KIDS! Adults need to gradually add expectations when they become middle schoolers and not think "Oh, you're in 6th grade? Great! You're a full grown adult now, act like it!" That isn't it and SHE'S A KID! She should need to worry about the real world because her 'real world' is going to school, hanging with friends and staying up. Not going to a 9-to-5 job, come home late to her kids and partner and have to pay bills. And a C is a passing grade so quit complaining and nurture her talents in writing because the story was obviously good enough to get a D and not a F

In the lane of the a. Kid enjoys writing and should be congratulated on the writing not penalized by both teacher and parent. Yes, the real world is out there and harsh, but we all seek escapism and adventure. I can understand teaching a lesson, albeit just following the in the box style school system way, but the grounding is a push. Let her write stories and fantasies, read them if she lets you and compliment the work put into it. If there is another base off real events prompt, help her out with it.

She probably just felt bad that her spring break reminded her of the finance struggles your family is dealing with. She may even be bullied at school for it, and this type of essay could make it worse. The teacher sounds like a total ass and quite frankly, so do you.

Encourage her to write. Encourage her to write a lot. Read the stories and tell her you're proud of them! And also explain that she does have to do what is asked in school. It doesn't need to be either or
