Growing up as a Filipino American, I’ve heard so many stories from my elders. The immigrants do strongly stand by their faith and superstitions. It’s hard balancing your culture that helps define you in a western world where it’s non existent. It comes in many ways, shapes and forms. So I am always on the look out and do unto others as I would want done unto me. Great video.

The diverse influences on Philippine mythology, as discussed in "Philippine Mythology 101: Mapping Migrations and Influences by The Aswang Project," continue to shape our cultural identity and worldview today. These myths reflect a blend of indigenous beliefs, colonial legacies, and global influences, influencing our perceptions of spirituality, morality, and the natural world. They serve as a rich tapestry of stories that connect us to our past and offer insights into our present circumstances. Moreover, these myths often carry moral lessons and values that resonate with contemporary Filipino society, providing guidance and inspiration in navigating modern challenges. Overall, the enduring presence of these mythological influences underscores the depth and resilience of Philippine culture in the face of evolving social and historical contexts.

Bakit hindi ninyo halungkatin ang Phil. History? Mabuhay kayo! congratulations!

It is indeed a well-documented video about the Aswang, when I was a kid I still remember how my grandparents tell us stories about mythological creatures such as aswang, manananggal, kapre, etc. which I believed when I was young even though sometimes they use that just to scare us especially at night so that we will not go out or to stop us from being stubborn. Because of these, I grew up being interested in these kinds of stories and up until now I’m still curious if they truly exist. As a Filipino, learning and knowing about the origin and stories of mythological creatures is truly important for Filipino society to gain a deeper understanding, it is also a way to gain a deeper connection with our ancestral roots that completes our identity as a Filipino and by these, we can preserve and pass down these rich beliefs, tradition and intangible culture heritage that we have to the next generation and not be forgotten. As an accountancy student, we also need to be culturally aware because one of the challenges in the business industry is cultural differences. Thus, we need to be aware and sensitive when communicating and working when dealing with diverse clients just like by understanding the diverse mythology of every region in our country.

Although I don't completely believe in the supernatural, I still value the preservation of folklore and stories from our culture. Growing up, I was afraid of Aswangs. However, once I discovered that it was primarily used to scare individuals, particularly kids, into returning home before it gets dark, my fear for Aswangs disappeared. By watching this documentary, I gained a deeper understanding of how the fear of the Aswang was utilized as a means of controlling the beliefs and actions of the Filipino people. Thanks to the extensive and detailed content of this documentary, my knowledge about Aswangs has increased.

For the people who do not really appreciate and understand our myth culture, I feel like this documentary will hook them in learning our myth culture as it provided a thorough introduction to the diverse structure in our cultural narratives, and beliefs. That is why, I can say that the study of ICH and the Filipino society in the Philippine myths is multifaceted as it provides us with different scopes such as serving as our vital link to the past, an inspiration to the artists of the present times, and a foundation for the future through our identity, resilience, and artistic expression within the dynamic landscape of the country. Knowing these things helps me - as a Fine Arts student - in gaining a more complex artistic pursuits in the sense of our culture and societal settings.

Mythology is a collection of stories formed from informal religious beliefs or traditions, and from which attempts to explain and even justify the origin of the natural world and the occurence of "supernatural" phenomenons. In this video, it also pointed out how Philippine mythology, as with other branches of world mythology, often hold similar characteristics, patterns, or themes in some of their folklores and fantastical beings. It is possible that the exchange of cultural beliefs of our ancestors, be it due to trading or immigration, followed by its adaptation to fit their personal experiences has led to this comparative similarities in multiple world mythologies. Aside from this, it shows the universal experiences of humans in the creation of "knowledge" in hopes to better understand, navigate, and explain their worldview and experiences when faced with the unknown. The influence of religion in Philippine society and therefore, mythology, was also mentioned. It stated how religion was used to control the people using fear and forced obedience. The earlier beliefs and practices, especially with regards to women, were also distorted in order to remove their influence and power over the community by labelling them as worshippers of evil or the "demons" themselves which was againsts the religious teachings imposed by the spanish empire's cruel and brutal securalization of christianity within the country.

I've been taught since I was a child that if I don't go to sleep at night, Aswang will get me. Kids are always made to feel afraid of these supernatural beings. Since I was a child, I have only believed that the term "aswang" refers to all species. Although they told me that aswangs have different types. Some “aswang” have large wings, red eyes, and lengthy tongues. Everyone I question about aswang usually tells me the same things about its size and appearance. Many Filipinos can benefit from these documentary in order to gain a deeper understanding of the aswang.

As someone who doesn’t believe in Aswang, Manananggal, and other superstitious beliefs. It is great that we have this social media platform to share to everyone who’s curious of Filipino Mythology, whether they are Filipino or from other country and this documentary can be shared by your classmates and friends. Honestly, I can’t say if this is true because I think it would be better if I’ve seen it with my own eyes(hope not), but I noticed that the Filipino Mythology is tied down to every filipino, once you mentioned ‘Aswang’ they’ll tell you information about it making you believe it like they have experience it. This Mythology cannot be remove to Filipinos as this Aswang, Tiktik, Manananggal, etc. defines the story of a real Filipino especially in the province. Relating it to Psychology, people might think that this 2 topic don’t relate to each other but if you try to understand both you’ll realize that they both focus on human mind and the unconscious processes.

I grew up being surrounded by people who mostly came from the southern part of the Philippines, those people believe and attest Filipino mythology. Some of them stated that they, some are their relatives, had experienced and encountered the superstitious creatures(specifically Aswang) that’s shown in this film documentary. While growing up, I found myself that I somehow believe these at the back of my head. This film made me realize that these beliefs are what make us Filipino, a mythology that is tied with many aspects of our country, our culture, belief and society. You can ask almost every Filipino about Aswang and most of them can provide fruitful information about it without them having an encounter nor experience, even if there is no certainty whether they truly existed or still exist. It has been deeply engraved in our culture no matter how many generations have passed and will come. Digging through stories, information and opinion of different people from different perspectives would be such an intriguing topic to write or tackle as a convergent media student.

As a Filipino, when I was a child I already knew about "Aswang" because I heard some stories about it and saw it on TV. It has been a part of our culture and our beliefs. Even though I did not see one, it still gives me goosebumps when I hear some stories about it. As said in the video, "Aswang can change its form into an animal, it can fly, cast magic spells, and heal itself", which is also how "aswang" was introduced to me when I was a kid. This documentary is great for people who do not know or want to know more about "aswang". In that part where this belief passes through generations. I can relate it to my course, because some knowledge about businesses or secrets to have a successful business can pass through generations.

This film is very informantive. All my life I have only known aswang as one version and now I know that there is not only one aswang, it is very broad and has many version all through out the country. The folklore itself passed down from generations to generations regardless of its origin/province is the intangible cultural heritage, the belief and how the people see the aswangs, how they behave when they say that the aswangs are aroudn them. As an architecture student I can relate this film to my course because the director of this film went here to the philippines just to realize that his knowledge about aswangs are far from the actual truth and just like me an architecture student, I cannot just create something out of my single opinion and knowledge. I have to research carefully, know the people in the environment and observe before building something.

This documentary is great! Although the word "aswang" itself is widely known by Filipinos, many did not know the whole story and how much more there is to these mythologies and its origin. This could really help our fellow Filipinos pass down knowledge as part of the preservation of our intangible cultural heritage. And as said in the documentary our views and opinions can change overtime depending on our depiction and influence of knowledge which relates to my course as we progressively learn these subjects.

-This video offers a unique perspective on a local belief system that is not well-known or addressed, making it important to both the study of ICH and Filipino society. An essential source of information for the research of ICH is the video. -The part of the video that resonates most with my course is we talk about the paranormal powers thought to be responsible for the Aswang occurrence. The numerous spiritual and supernatural forces that are thought to be at work in various cultures and faiths are a topic of discussion in my course.

The movie provides a comprehensive overview of the influence of Philippine mythology. Although Aswangs were present during pre-colonial times, it's evident that the surroundings in which they existed had a significant effect on the myth. This observation applies not only to small theories but also to well-established cultures. Therefore, intangible cultural heritages demand considerable attention since they shape individuals and society. As a college student majoring in Digital Cinema, this entire documentary resonated with me. Ever since I got hooked on studying film, I sought the idea that to capture subtle literary devices through motion pictures is to capture compelling storytelling. Significant aspects of the film elements required improvements in this documentary; however, I recognize the effort put into the whole project. For instance, I wish the film did not overlook the abuse, degradation, and sexism that Filipino women faced under the Aswang mythology. Documentary films are a potent means to effect social change-- I wish there was hard emphasis on why women are the center of asperity because this unearths Filipino society's long-term misogyny and female discrimination. Nevertheless, the film did not fail to make me realize the outer systemic issue besides the inner point-- violence.

As a Filipino who has always been curious about the nature of the Philippine Folklores, This documentary was very informative and hit the mark easily. It reminded me when I was a kid that I really adored the rich lore of the aswangs, growing up I use to always consume these types of stories in Filipino media because i love a good scare and it is actually interesting. This well put documentary didn’t just helped me relieved that feeling of nostalgia, but i also gained so much knowledge.

Personally, I have always been curious with the history of the aswangs our country has. Objectively, the documentation connects with the lessons taught inside the classroom, and now that I’m a film student I am given a chance to know more about them by films and such.

As a Filipino, I have learned that the aswang is a prominent figure in the stories that have been transmitted across generations in the Philippines. The aswang holds a significant place in our country, with numerous variations. It is crucial for us to familiarize ourselves with these variations and gain a profound comprehension of this folklore. The aspect of the video that I find relevant to my course is the application of the aswang concept in filmmaking. This approach provides an opportunity to attract a larger audience and educate them about the history of aswang's. By utilizing the medium of film, we can effectively communicate knowledge about aswang's to diverse communities in a more artistic manner. Like it said in the documentary "i hope this film contributes to this and creates an understanding and dialog to ensure that a word representing evil can evolve into an educational tool and a thread in the historical timeline of the philippines.

Growing up, "Aswang" was a term used by elderly to scare us if we kept on playing outside past 6PM. Even tho I haven't seen one, it was instilled in me that Aswang is the epitome of "fear" in our culture. As I watched the documentary, it made me realize that most Filipinos, but not all of us, believe in Aswang. Aswang, who varies depending on the interpretation of the locality or story it came from. Watching this documentary provided me the importance of this culture in the Philippines. Aswang wasn't just merely a myth or an urban legend, it wasn't just a superstition. It is one of our identity.
