Good question! Usually what I like to do is create a storyboard before putting the video together. This process consists of brainstorming ideas, organizing the scenes, and making a list of assets that you want to add in such as transitions and motion graphics. Specifically for this demo reel, my main focus was to showcase all of my skills/niches and combine them all into one short video. I did that by splitting them up into different sections and adding titles to each genre. This gives the viewer an idea of what your strengths are. Reels don't need to be long... I would say around 30 to 90 seconds is ideal. I do highly recommend selecting a music track before you begin editing so that you can just drag and drop your projects in and play around with the pacing. Lastly, try your best have fun with it because the whole idea of making a reel is to authentically express your artistic style. Let me know if you have any more questions. Hope this helps! :)
