I always manage to kill my succulents. Either I’m Overwatering them or not sure when to water and they die
@PleasantPrickles6 күн бұрын
Honestly, have the best luck with aloes and haworthias. I think it’s amazing how little water succulents actually need! I just read that you should not water a jade plant until their leaves fall off, because their leaves are little storage tanks for water and when they fall off it means they are low on water. Maybe that’s a good rule of thumb for other succulents too? Good luck and thanks for watching! 🌿🌿🌿😊

How long before you can tell if your cactus has a seed?
@PleasantPricklesАй бұрын
@@racheljohnson4274 once the cactus develops a brightly colored “fruit” and the flower dies back at the end of it, you can remove it from the of tip of the plant and then squish the fruit pulp onto a paper towel. Squash it around to separate out the seeds. Once that dries you can scrape off seed and plant it on top of light soil mix. I cannot remember how long it takes from bloom and pollination to develop a juicy fruit to work with. I recommend watching a KZbin channel called Desert plants of Avalon, she has done many videos on the topic of propagating Christmas cactus from seed. I think you’ll find it useful. Good luck! 🌵🌵🌵😀

How long was it between pollination and when the seed pod started growing?
@ashh8910Ай бұрын
But how do you get to t to make a seed pod?
@PleasantPricklesАй бұрын
You can take a small paint brush or Q tip and brush some pollen on the center stamen that you have gathered from another flower, mimicking pollinators flying from flower to flower in nature. I think in this case I took the pollen from a flower on another plant. 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱😀
@ashh8910Ай бұрын
@ and how long does it take the seed pod to start growing??
@PleasantPricklesАй бұрын
@@ashh8910if it is a successful pollination, as the flower dies back the base of it should swell. The pod is really a small fruit. I don’t remember how long it took, but you want the pod/fruit to stay on for a while so the seeds inside mature. Desert Plants of Avalon, a channel on KZbin, has some great videos on this topic. 🌱🌱🌱🌱

Nature planted it. It is farther back from the fence than it looks in my video. The house next door has been mostly vacant for a couple of years, so some interesting plants are moving into their yard. It's amazing how chunky they look from the top compared to how they almost disappear from the side. Just saw on Wikipedia "Their spin is the fastest leg-driven turning maneuver of any terrestrial animal," apparently facilitated by their flat stance, and is used as a model in robotics.

I have some fancy elephant ears I want to try and save. After you dry them….you just lay them in a cardboard box? Do you wrap them in anything? Do you put a lid on the box?
@PleasantPrickles2 ай бұрын
@@cindylouwhobohl6983 mine are just the regular ones, but it probably works just the same. Some people will wrap in newspaper or layer in with paper shreds, but I don’t wrap mine. If they are being stored in a garage though, wrapping may be a good idea (but they are less likely to freeze if stored in a cool basement). After they dry out a week or two inside in a dark room, I always put them inside a paper bag or cardboard box, spaced apart enough so they are minimally touching each other and there is air circulation around each of them. Then, I close the box, because darkness keeps them dormant. If a bulb/tuber senses light it will try to grow. I then keep the closed box in my cool basement. Good luck, this method has worked for me every year! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱😀
