Hi. Great Video. Could you tell me what the battery options are for this tester? I see the comparable Metrel one has rechargeable but cannot find any info on this tester apart from that it comes with batteries. thanks

Hello richie, great video..got myself the same tester/ev module and its brilliant. Dont suppose you could do a video of an actual ev test from start to finish as the instructions on the EV unit are a bit poor to say the least. Many thanks, steve.

I have purchased this same mft with evse adapter, it is a brilliant bit of kit. I am having one small issue with the mft though, sometimes when it is first switched on (especially when clod out of the van) and I press the test button on any of the settings, the unit powers off. If I switch back on and press test again sometimes it switches off again or other times it performs the test. I’d be interested to know if any other users experience this issue. On the whole though, I am very happy with how it performs. Thanks for the video👍👍

Hi Richie, thanks for your positive video on the new KT66DL tester. Just a couple of things to make you aware of if we may. Haha yes we know a CD-ROM is quite old fashioned these days but we do still get requests for it so hence why we still offer it with the tester...but of course, we do also offer downloadable software for everyone who is up with the times. Secondly, all of our MFT’s come with an end of line calibration cert. The first time you use the meter is the commissioning day. Simply sign and date the certificate on the day you purchase the instrument and you will be covered for a year from that date. It is recommended that you get your test meter calibrated after a year. Some distributors do offer a further calibration service where the instrument is calibrated before being shipped to you however this is optional and not necessary for everyone. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the reply Kewtechcorp. I am really enjoying using the tester it feels intuitive. I wasn’t made aware of the end of line calibration cert and the company I purchased from was quite insistent it would need calibrated unfortunately some companies try to get the extra few ££. So far the only thing that would be nice is Bluetooth to allow results to auto populate to certificate soft ware but this is a minor thing and could be more hassle than it’s worth.

I'm torn between this and the Metrel. One advantage the Metrel has, is the ability to test type B RCDs. Do you think we will see more type B's in future EV charge ports?
@richiegtridentelectrics9635
@richiegtridentelectrics9635 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Liam. You just made me question myself which is a good thing so I checked. There is an option to test Type B RCDs on this kit. And Yes I think we may see a shift in the near future to not only Type B but AFDDs etc. From my previous engineering experience the risks arising from lithium iron batteries aren’t to be underestimated I’d say most charge points on the market provide the protection needed there is bound to be cheep knockoffs or uncle Bert botching one in and causing a major issue (remember those “hover boards” from China that set Christmas on fire). This will lead to more safety requirements even though those fitted by qualified, quality sparkies will be safe.

Hi Richie, great video thank you for sharing that. I'm just getting in the industry and looking to buy my first multifunction tester. I've been looking into the available options and I know I probably should start with a simpler and cheaper tester but looking to the future ahead and considering I want to move into installing EV chargers and Solar panel I'm thinking better to spend more money now then buying a cheaper option now and having to upgrade later which might end up costing me more. What is your opinion on this? and How you finding the KT66DL now that you have used for a few weeks? Thank you.
@richiegtridentelectrics9635
@richiegtridentelectrics9635 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcos. It sounds like we are of similar opinion and situations. I’ve been an electrical engineer for 23 years so lots of experience with lots of tech and measuring instruments but am just starting in pure domestic electrics. The same as you I wanted to keep it simple but also have always worked on the Buy cheep but twice motto. My justification for the Kewtech was that the Mega version with EV charging was the same price and you get the 1741 which is good but years old. The Metrel version just seemed a step too far with pure touch screen etc. I’ve been using this just over a month and I’d say it’s the perfect Balance of enough new tech with the robustness of a dial the EV charge tester is so simple to use and not that you’ll need them but the help screens are great if your doing a test your not used to. I need to get set up with bluetooth to the iPad next to speed up testing. I honestly can’t fault it.
