I use quilting cotton , to start with you can also use old bedsheets , garments also ..

Your pattern is beautiful and your explanation is clear. I resisted buying an add a quarter ruler, but I find that is increases my productivity. I conscripted by Dritz Easy Hemmer (thin metal) as my "card". It butts up nicely on the folded paper and the add a quarter for clean trims. For those with an acrylic sewing table, a nightlight underneath makes a great light table. And glue as you demonstrate ensures that stuff stays put.
