Its not all doom and gloom. Some people don't want to retire and the whole concept of retirement was only invented in the UK during Victorian times. People figure stuff out despite the Government.

Book keepers going obsolete i can understand but chartered accountants wont be going anywhere soon. But then again, he is an economist and they do have their prejudice against accountants.

I am a Singaporean and my heart really goes out to the Malaysians. Hope things get better for them. They truly needed a govt that look after their welfare. We are also facing inflations in Singapore and cost of housing has gotten so high, even public housing is becoming unreachable for us lower income earners. This is really sad. Many people think that Singaporeans get paid very high salaries, but its not true. Alot of us make minimal or below mininal wages. My pay has not increased since I started working in the company 15 years ago.

What bout children supporting elderly parents? My sisters and I are supporting my parents fully, my neighbor who hardly work most of his life was supported by his brother, p.s. we are middle income families only, ...I think if one live frugal lives, cook and eat at home, no tidbits, buy discount food if available, take public transport, may be try plant own vege, don't mine second hand clothes handbag etc... probably still can survive retirement!

The future is going to be very tough for many malaysian. I hope the goverment will implement policies that will ease and elevate the people's anxieties and burden. As everybody knows, corruption is one of most critical factor that affects everything and everybody. I hope the government will really tackle this. I am sure solving this issue will helps tremendously to lessen the hardships of malaysian.

They need to introduce a large inheritence tax to reduce the massive wealth gap in Malaysia (possible across ASEAN). Guess what none of these rich people can make money outside of their home countries - then they pass it on to their kids who are mostly useless. Best thing is to imoplement a 50% to 75% inheritance tax to any kids who are usless. And oh yeah the inflation argument is always comical...all u do is look at prices in 2020 and look at them now. Then do the same from 2015 to 2020. Its irrelevant if inflation is down when prices climbed dramatically earlier. People still cannot afford stuff. Lastly - Malaysia prints all the money it needs to make sure people get the 5% for EPF and whatever else...they need..its comical when global markets tank - EPF still delivers 5% how exactly? Malaysia does not borrow because the learned the lesson from 1997 Asian Financial Crisis.

This same situation exists between Italy & Swiss! The Italian however does not have this problem of border! They get in the Switzerland very easily. By car or by train. They work there & come back to their home in some small town across the border where the rent is cheap.

So, if Singaporeans are coming to Malaysia to retire to stretch their dollar, is the solution Malaysians need to retire in other countries to stretch their ringgit? Or just accept their fate to become economic fodder?

There’s too many brain dead idiots running the Malaysian gov and I don’t see any change happening in the coming years unless the government is serious enough to implement reforms. the next generation is doomed for Malaysians I would advice the young youths to find find a good career in other country and move for the better then come back to Malaysia for retirement. The ringgit is not gonna get better it will continue to fall as it is devalued since 45 years ago.

Income disparity in Malaysia is very hugh in different profession. A professional employee can afford to retire as his take home pay (thus self investment) and contribution to retirement scheme is much higher than a non-professional employee. Can the government do something on these disparities income?

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

Why is Malaysian income so low? Because goods and services are cheap in Malaysia. Why is it that the life style of Malaysians is practically the same as the lifestyle of a Brit despite earning 20% less is because of foods and services are so expensive. Do have a better lifestyle, you need to have higher wages RELATIVELY to the cost of livings. To do that, you need the economy to be growing faster, and the easiest way to do that is to find a sustainable way to grow the population. For those WHO actually know, Malaysia is slowly becoming one of the biggest hubs for digital nomads, not because of the government, but in spite of the government. The trickle down effects of people living in Malaysia by choice is going to be massive and they do so because of the favourable tax policies. Malaysia is going to be trash if you listen to this guy. Less government intervention, not more, is the answer
