I'm a retired soccer referee and from the video point of view it was obviously an offside. I had my share of ejecting parents from games.

Even had the coach been right (and he wasn't), why would anyone think a referee wants to be disrespected like that?
@theCranesUS20 күн бұрын
What is the coach yelling? It is a straight kick, no one touched it? If so how is that relevant. The defender scored from open play, no?
@wallywiegert67727 күн бұрын
Well, actually the offside player appears to be well in front of the keeper ( i counted at least 8 steps the offside player made running towards the goalkeeper as the ball was kicked, and bounced in front of the keeper, who had a very clear view of the ball. the offside player was not interfering or obstructing. the GK is U11 - he missed played it. But.... this is everything wrong with youth soccer.

The second he started to yell at the ref, he was wrong ! Referees are not infallible, they are human, but never has a referees decision been altered or influenced by some mouthy coach from the sidelines ! Refereeing is a thankless job and these people deserve respect, there is no game without them ! Parents and coaches do the kids a great disservice when they behave badly . It's house league for ten year olds, not the world cup.

Utterly idiotic comments below sticking up for the coach. OBVIOUSLY none of you know the rules of football and offside "line of sight" and "interfering with play" rule. No goal; offside, period,. You pathetic morons below that disagree need to take a course on the rules of the game instead of pretending to "know the game" because you "played it in middle school" or pretend to watch games on tv - and even then only watch the "highlights" of the game. Educate yourselves before you open your stupid ignorant mouths.

Coach needs to learn the laws of the game. His player was obstructing the keeper while he was in an offside position. He doesn't need to touch the ball.

For those wondering it was called offside beacsue at the time the ball was kicked and until it went in the goal there was a player in an offside position affecting the goalies ability to play the ball, thus offside.

in the quest I undertook to understand offsides since my kid took a serious liking to soccer years ago I must say: that coach is an idiot if he thinks only touching the ball constitutes offsides. any demonstrated intent on involving yourself with the play is also deemed offsides. that kid was clearly eyeing the ball, staggering his step backward along with it as if he was going to intervene at any given moment. on the flip side, I've seen a lot of (mostly younger) refs call offsides when a player is simply standing in an offside position when the ball is kicked. you can be offside all day long if you're not engaged in the play or showing intent to do so.

I officiated youth & college for over 20 years. Someone tell me what this guy is complaining about, saying “nobody touched the ball”, and he thinks that it shouldn’t be a goal! Someone tell this guy that if a kid kicks the ball from the middle of the field and the other team’s defenders & goalie miss judge the ball which travels into the goal, it is a good goal!
@MrCho148 ай бұрын
The call on the field was offside and no goal. The coach was from the attacking team and was trying to tell the ref that his attacker didn't actually touch the ball and that it should have been a goal. This video is from 8 years ago and honestly I don't recall what the interpretation was back then as far as actually touching the ball versus simply interfering with play. It has changed.
