Even in a sports car, Earnhardt still wore an open faced helmet

He makes up so much ground in the slow corners without pushing the car.

Introduced me to other forms of motorsports, i knew dirt and local short track stuff, but road course was like a different religion, it was taboo to many Nascar fans, then Dale went and did it and changed so many opinions

The European racers were lucky Dale didn't put em in the wall.

Should be wide open throttle on the big track. No turns in the infield. Too slow.

"He's on slicks in the rain, passing cars" Y'all know this guy started on dirt right? Traction is a *luxury* in his domain, a sports car with actual downforce probably feels like a fighter jet compared to what he's used to, even in the wet. With slicks.

Dale would have been 72 this year....I bet he'd still be racing these days 🏁 Miss you Dale #3

Weren't Stewart and Labonte teammates? If that is correct Stewart kinda screwed his teammate at the end.

Why does it seem super speedway racing 20 yrs ago was more exciting than in recent years? The drivers? The way the cats sound n look? The fact that there was a grand stand on the back stretch back then. Today Nascar is boring to me and it bums me out.

To me this was the perfect restrictor plate package. They could get huge runs with that wicker on top and the one they put on the spoiler and made the racing soooo good

I watched this entire race, (on tv), at one point in the pouring rain in the night, I'm sure I recall correctly, he was turning laps 8 seconds faster than the next fastest car on the track, the guy was a friggin machine, I miss him so much.

My dad & I were at this race. We were both HUGE Earnhardt fans...his death was a HUGE impact to us in 2001. After Earnhardt's death my dad became a HUGE Michael Waltrip fan & I became a HUGE Earnhardt Jr fan. Watching Jr win this race was so special to my dad & l...we talked about how much fun we had & what a Talledega race & experience meant to me & him all the way back to Mobile Alabama. IT WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST MEMORIES & TIMES I EVER HAD WITH MY DAD!!! I sure do miss my dad now...I still think about this race & I have to just cry & smile...THERE AIN'T NOTHING LIKE A FATHER/SON RELATIONSHIP & MEMORIES!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.

If this happened today, NASCAR would have instantly thrown a caution and the race would end there. But this was a time that racers would race back to the caution. And it was the final lap.

Ironic how he’s called the Intimidator, which makes you think he has an aggressive driving style but he seems to be relaxed and gentle when driving a race car. Maybe that was what made him more intimidating 😮

I was there, at the braking zone for the International Horseshoe, when the rain started to fall. Dale was diving deeper into the turn than anybody, on slicks, turning right. The man was fearless. Hard to believe that was over 20 years ago. RIP.
