My God Mother ran this pub in the 70's & 80's. I have seen the beer cellor, which had a 'bricked up wall', which they say ran from the pub to I think, 'Hockney hall'. It was used so that they could hide victims from and flee from Oliver Cromwell and his men. Thats all I know. weather its true or not, I really don't know.

That brings back memories, back in the 50's 60's there was a painted life sized statue in the garden of a wouman with her head under her arm, we always used to look out for it on our way to Chester Zoo! Cant remember now when or why it was removed might have been because new landloads didnt like it or there were complaints about it.

I believe there's a young royalist or parliament soldier in the pond by our experience here. The farm was near a parliamentary garrison in the English Civil War in the mid 17th century, and there was a siege. After that and after a local battle where the Parliamentarians won, they sieged the local hall, now garrisoned by royalists, and won. Their commander had treated the locals very badly. Metal detecting finds prove to the siege took place on the fields by the farm and where the video was taken, a number of pistol and musket lead shot balls, and recently, a sword belt hanger, dating to that very period. I don't want to drain the pond thou... If you know what I mean 😥

Why would anyone take small children to a very old house?
@saiyaniam
@saiyaniam 2 жыл бұрын
Why not? They'll appreciate the environment far deeper than any adult. As we age we lose the magic of life and become more analytical and machine like. Children's bring life and magic to a place. It's not like they're just screaming their heads off.

Never too young to start learning about history. If their curiosity is primed at an early age, they never unlearn that recognition that there is a lot to discover. Those kids who never go anywhere with their parents are the sad ones !
