It's just the style of armour and illustrations. As far as I know 'boob armour' wasn't really a thing historically, even for the rare female combatants when they occured, although there are some 14th- 15th century depictions of amazons with 'boob armour' like breastplates or bridandine like armours if I recall correctly, Though, keep in mind that those were painted with lots of artistic freedom an fantasy elements in mind. Talhoffer, the fightmaster who had the book made, shows judicial duels between a man and a woman in multiple manuscripts of his, but never are the man or the woman shown in armour in that context.

Those are Rondels, little plate discs that cover the armpit on full plate armour to make it harder to reach - also where the rondel dagger gets its name, as the flat discs on the pommel and guard of the dagger are very similar to rondels in armour :)
