The movie didn’t put enough emphasis on the importance of Bill in Charlie’s life. In the movie, he was a nice teacher who gave Charlie books. In the book he was a mentor who heavily impacted Charlie’s high school experience.

And then one day he got a letter. Greetings from Your Government It said. They sent him to Clerk Typist School and he could type 60 Words in a Minute. Then he was sent to be a Clerk Typist but when got off the truck they put him in a tank. He cleaned up the blood and the dismembered face of the previous guy and threw up outside the tank. He didn't shoot some children with a _Panzerfaust_ and they blew up the tank before him. The tank's Commander came out of the tank with his body covered in flames. Then he shot himself in the head. His Tank Commander told him it was his fault as he sat in his tank watching the dead man burn. His TC forced a gun into his hand and made him shoot a prisoner in the back - who was wearing an over coat he had gotten from one of their guys. The enemy killed more of the men around him and he learned to kill them. He poured Red Tracer Rounds into their bodies and tore them apart. His TC told him he'd done a good job. They killed a lot more people and saw a lot of people die. They gave him a War Name - _"Machine"_ and laughed because he was now one of them. _"Best Job I Ever Had"_ they all said and laughed - knowing it was the worst. Everyone else in his tank was killed but he wasn't. When he got home from the war they asked him what he'd done. He told them he was a Clerk Typist. .

@DontEatYourMicrowave Let me tell you an incident I had to go through in 11th grade, I had 72 percent attendance while more than half of the class had less than 60% attendance, so then there's this mean teacher(male) I used to despise since 9th grade, He was the physics teacher and was our class teacher that year, And He starts talking that I've have had the least attendance out of entire class (the class strength was like 50+) although I thought he was correct but when I checked the attendance record during the lunch break, I got to know I had one of the highest attendance in that damn classroom, In the next class (his class) he again started yelling that I have least attendance, But I stood up said "I have a higher attendance than most of your students, I only take leave when I'm sick" That son of b!tch dragged me and made me stand infront of the class, He started yelling "This guy is often sick cause he's very a infected person,You guys name any disease I'm sure he's gone through it" That entire classroom started screaming the names of diseases i hadn't even heard before Aboulomania,Methemoglobinemia,Hypertrichosis etc (I don't really remember much) The next day when got into classroom all those mfs and that teacher had written diseases all over the black board, And then I quit medical school and never wanted to pursue it as a career

Perks is a top 5 favorite movie of mine. I can recite this movie front to back. Finding these deleted scenes today just ROCKED my world! However, I think the final film is better without these deleted scenes. The final cut still sells Charlie as a character and his situation so most of these just weigh the movie down even more. The clinic scene wouldn't have added much because Candence was a less developed character. My biggest takeaway is editing is so important. As a writer-director myself, I know how precious we can be with what we create and find it difficult to cut our babies. Very proud that Stephen was able to let go of pages from the book and pages that were shot to give us the efficient final cut. I love this movie and will revisit these scenes here and there to be with these characters in a different forum ❤

I think they should have included the abortion clinic scene, I mean they never showed the actual procedure, the scene of the clinic was self explanatory. I don’t think it would have earned an R rating, teenagers know about abortion anyway. They cut out a pivotal scene that would have given Charlie and Candace’s relationship more depth. Logan did great. Nina is great too but didn’t have enough screen time. I have learned more about them by reading the book.

Is anyone who’ve seen this or going to see this willing to play this side by side the actually movie (it’s free on KZbin currently as of June 10, 2024) and add time stamps here of where each scene would fit in the actual movie?(…if you are able to decipher it. There might be some scenes that don’t have same setting scenes, iykwim, and you might not know where they’d belong in the final outcome of the movie or what not..idk I haven’t watched this video yet and I don’t want to because k don’t want spoilers.) BUT if anyone can do that that’s be great so I can pull up both the movie and this video side by side and play the clips in this video according to the final product of the movie! Thanks :)

I wish they kept in the scene with Michael and the one with Susan at lunch and I really wish they kept in the ones with his sister too. They should’ve just kept those and most of these honestly-it wouldn’t have even made the movie much longer and I feel like it would’ve added even more.

I dont think charlie is the same character in the book and the movie. I still love them both, but in the book charlie is so child like and innocent. In the movie he is a lot less so
