Didn’t contact them, I had the means to correct the issues. After a conversation with the customer decided to keep the project moving forward. Just won’t use their product in the future.

I just got truck back from mechanic for other issues and I am drained $$$ so wondering since the code p0016 just came on if I can continue driving or take it in the shop. Last year the cp4 pump went out I am guessing that made the crank gear spin but I just got the code today

Having this same issue, lined everything up and welded it. Still a crank no start;P0016; Oscilloscope says crank and cam are (20 crank signals) 120° out. Cant figure it out
@northwestlighttruckservice27822 күн бұрын
Man that sucks! First thing to do is recheck timing marks at piston tdc, valves closed. From there I would be scrutinizing the tone ring. Couple questions, original issue? What other diags have you done?
@RobertAnderson-ht6dr22 күн бұрын
The original issue was bearing failure, i rebuilt the engine and it ran for 3 days before slipping the crank gear. I have verified good compression. Checked entire fuel system. Tested wiring for crank/cam/pcm. Replaced cam and crank sensors. Viewed the cam/crank signals with an oscilloscope. Valve covers are still on, going to hopefully bore gauge it this week and verify tdc. How do I know if valves are closed with the valve cover/intake still installed?

@@RobertAnderson-ht6dr can take an extended air nozzle and put air down the injector hole, I have a rubber tip that seals pretty good, then listen for leakage out of intake or exhaust.

Thanks for sharing, seeing the issues with the timing and lifters, would you recommend replacing these at 100k before any catastrophic failure happens?

Thank you for this, just had this happen on a Customer’s 2018 F250. Injectors, glow plugs, and rockers were all off and the engine would turn, then stop and wouldn’t turn anymore. I spoke with an engine builder and they said the crankshaft gear had slipped off just as you said. I’ll add this to the list of things to do on a 6.7 Powerstroke when they come in. Thank you again, God bless you 🙏🏼

you just described what's been happening with my 2005 f250 since I bought it new, only when towing our camper up a long grade, it will throw a wrench light on the dash and lose some power, I have learned that (like you said) turn the key off then back on and it would reset and be fine again. It felt like it didn't down shift soon enough maybe, but like you said it would just dump the boost when the light came on. Does this sound like the same thing ? should it throw a code ? No check engine light on... thanks, jim

Just wanted to send my thanks. Have systematically eliminated every other component from the system. No exhaust leaks or charge system leaks (25 psi) MAP reads ok orifice is clean, EBP reads ok orifice is clean and even with cat removed no change/improvement, VGT % sticks at 85% from a stop to full throttle. Makes full boost at 3k+. But no dtcs for VGT circuit codes, removed the turbo and cleaned with no change. Shame because its the classic let it sit and suffer the consequences. Will update after the repair!

I've always "assumed" all engines would have a keyway machined in from the factory in the exact spot and so never any guess work, with this mess there is no good way of knowing unless you did what you did with finding TDC and align the gear mark to the camshaft gear markings. They reinvented the wheel ... just didn't do a well thought out job of it though !
@ErgensUit19873 ай бұрын
No, the 1.6 petrol 16v duratec ford engine is also keyless. There are special timing tools. Crankshaft locating pin. And a flat bar to fix the camshafts. All should fall in place when the 1st cyl. is TDC. After that you can release all your sprockets, change the belts or chains.Tighten the crankshaft bolts and camshaft bolts and the sprockets should be locked in place by a stretch bolt.

Why won’t the glow plug hole work?
@northwestlighttruckservice2785 ай бұрын
I didn’t try. The glow plug is at an angle and although the extensions for the dial ind. fit, I think it would want to bend the extension because it would need to slide against the combustion crown. I didn’t want to chance getting it stuck in the hole if it bent. Inj 1 comes out pretty easy if you have that certain part on top the VC missing or can be accessed by removing the pass tire and fender liner if the cooler is present.
@leroygreen18775 ай бұрын
Did you remove the crank gear with a puller then retime the crank? If that's a machine fit that crank gear would be extremely tight to remove or install with no key ways. I have been working on vehicles for 30 years and always learning something new. Thanks for the videos on the 6.7l.
@northwestlighttruckservice2785 ай бұрын
Yes, after finding top dead center on cyl 1 and verifying timing was off, pulled gear with puller, verified tdc again, put some heat to the gear and reinstalled. I took many measurements from different points off a good short block I have and did some comparisons. It might not be absolutely laser perfect, but likely closer than it was when it rolled off the line.

I was looking to invest in a scan tool hear good things about Autel, I'm not a mechanic but I am a mechanic if that makes sense! I wanted to get a scan tool not ridiculously priced but is excellent at diagnosing 6.0s and super duties since our fleet is all supers, also I work on friends and families vehicles. Any recommendations you could give would be much appreciated. Wanted to up my game by investing in a more modern scanner, I want to make sure it does everything I need for my truck before I invest $1000 plus on a tool. Thank you sir, keep up the good work!

As a retired factory trained tech.... When MLS gaskets started to be the norm they trained us saying that machine shops don't have the capability to machine the heads smooth enough. Only option is to replace if damaged. In fact they did not even want us to clean the surfaces up with 3M pads as they "scratch too deep". Told to use wood or plastic scrapers only! Whatever, my training was obviously wrong and I always did proper repairs. At one point they also said that blown out plugs only could be repaired by replacing the head. That was wrong too.

just out of curiosity is that how the heads on the 6.0 powerstroke look like?!? ive never seen a cylinder head that looks like that to be honest where the valves are flush
@northwestlighttruckservice2788 ай бұрын
I’ll get flamed for this non technical explanation. Most diesel cylinder heads are this way. Valves are recessed, piston protrudes, head gasket thickness and valve recession provide piston to valve clearance, combustion chamber is in the center of the piston.
