i heavily resonate with ur message abt trauma and mormons it often feels like no else knows what it feels to be outcasted for not going forward with having the same condescending mentality and having to be isolated and ostracized from family just for them to stop caring, that trauma is something that friends and partners alike make it harder to understand or relate to u as ofc not everyone has experienced that lack of trust and lifelong deception, later life trauma is hard to understand especially the scars that never heal after youve been in the environment after being on ur own, feelings u can never explain to others properly

23:10 A quote from Deadpool comic "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", about Wade seeing his daughter for the first (and only) time: "Carmelita...I think she found me a few years back and hit me up for child support. I can kind of remember laughing her off. I told Carmelita that she was running a scam. And that it was impossible her baby could be mine. She was too beautiful."

yeah... after watching deadpool and wolverine, i went to watch the first deadpool movie. and GOD it hit me hard. underneath the many things that make deadpool a VERY fun character to write for and see stories about is a very harrowing story that's since stolen my heart. ryan reynolds has done us all a big service by getting these movies made despite everything- they heavily resonated with me and anyone else who's ever suffered from any form of trauma.

9:06 This. This is what frustrates me so much about hearing people say "But all the difficulties taught you something, right?" Trauma doesn't teach; you have to teach yourself and learn in order to live WITH the trauma, and what you learn by examining it and building yourself up is where the wisdom is acquired. It's terrifying, and difficult, and you never feel like you're done, and exhausting to do so much work just to get to what you feel is everyone else's starting point. Trauma is not the lesson, it's something that you can learn from, or be destroyed by.

Heyyy! Fellow traumatized former ex Mormon here saying: you're not alone, and I get it. (I never had to go on a mission bc I'm a girl, but I'm gay, and was s**ually abused by my bishop, among other people).

I don't really like superhero movies but I love Deadpool. Traditional Superheroes usually have struggles but they remain unaffected by the way that trauma drastically broadens your perspective. The other reason I love Deadpoool, that wasn't talked about here, is his inner monologue as a jumble of different persona's all chattering at the same time, while not all trauma victims experience this, it's a fairly accurate representation of how I experience my own inner monologue. I am glad this movie got made and that Ryan Reynolds has made so many people feel seen.

11:40 I’m so sorry to hear that man, I struggle with an eating disorder as well and have lost over 17lb of fat and muscle, I’m 24 now and a former shell of who I was once was. Even worse knowing that you live in a first world country and you still struggle to provide yourself with 2 meals a day

Revenge is no longer appropriate, huh? In that case, well, I'll have to file what I did under "Whoopsie!". Hahaha! Okay, so what had happened was my grandpa was a bad person to say the very least. My Dad vowed to never be like that and then failed miserably anyways. You know how the stats for kids without a Dad around are pretty bad? Seriously, it's nightmare fuel. Well, my understanding is that bad people who want to do bad things figure that the mom is so busy that she won't notice, he can strongman her into submission, Romeo their way in, or whatever? Well, he was around but was so weak and cowardly that he'd let his own impulses run wild as well as let things happen. I'm talking about literally inviting bad people into our lives, finding out about what they did and/or seeing the harm that they caused, making excuses for them, coming up with a false narrative about how it was a good thing (or not as bad as what happened him as a child at least), encouraging them to continue/condemning us if we made it stop, and then insisting that we drop everything to buy him expensive gifts and celebrate what a great father he was. Oh, and that playing pretend included lying to maintain the illusion to others and even straight up denying things to us when we clearly knew it happened because, ya know, we were witnesses and victims... I kid you not, he even insisted that we need to "sit down and hear out my side of the story instead of just getting brainwashed by your mom". Yeah... like she's a aupervillain with a brainwashing beam gun from comics. She didn't have to tell me *anything* because *I was there* ! There's a *lot* more to the story but that is the super summarized version. Umm, general highlights include things likea a cult, slamming against a wall, a belt, thanks for the brain washing, yelling over dinner, asking why someone didn't continue a relationship with Mr. No No Bad Touch, fireworks "accidentally" getting shot at a woman who was 8 months pregnant, etc... Well, remember how I said he insisted on denying everything? He had a really pretty image of himself in the eyes of other's that he built with all of that. He's also got a nice image on social media. It sure would be a shame if someone cut him off and, oh... I don't know... if they were to mess with that image some. 😈 Social media can be a useful tool. It prominently provides a list of people that a person knows. For example, my uncle. Yeah, he was not happy to learn that the cycle didn't end with my grandpa. My dear old Dad is in for quite the surprise the next that he talks to his beloved older brother. So how am I doing now? I'm loving life as I disprove all of his excuses and lies. I have an amazing beautiful wife and two great daughters. Unlike some people, I don't demand respect and obedience because of religious rules, violence if she doesn't, or whatever. No, she gladly goes along with my plans because she has learned from experience that I will make sure she's happy and prosperous. My daughters? They're excelling with the confidence to accomplish any challenge. Also, the one that's old enough that she's started dating? I don't worry too much because she doesn't accept anything less than the standard behavior she expects based on how she's seen me treat her mother and sister as well as how I have treated her directly. That's been my revenge and I'm proud that I did it.

I can’t say that I ever really comment on videos, but this was actually incredibly phenomenal. Wade really holds a special place in my heart and Deadpool has been a reoccurring hyperfixation for a few years now. I feel like you’ve really managed to give voice to the jumbled and tangled thoughts I have about him.

I grew up very Mormon to the point of generations of my family were dedicated Mormons. I can’t even explain the guilt and joyless environment that is within the youth groups. My mom and I finally excommunicated ourselves and saw beyond the lies this church was constantly telling itself and it’s members. The Mormon brainwashing trauma effects my life to this day on my concept of family and overall unsatisfied reality of my family.

Seeing this after just having seen Deadpool and Wolverine really rounds the experience out. Wade is able to live as himself now, having found a way to overcome his own hang ups and move forward even as he continues to act immature, in the end able to reach out to someone in a similar situation and help them come out of it. It all comes full circle. Excellent work!

In the comics as well Wade represents trauma. His parents mistreated him leaving him to bring trauma to others in his life. He was SAed by Typhoid Mary after finally rehabilitating himself only to spiral back in and hurt his friends. Wade is literally Marvel’s Guts from Berserk.
