I was two times in these situations ones in my work for 5 years and the other in a church where I was misunderstood for been very up going ,happy , and very friendly., take me a long time to see et, it was painful for me and et was then when I knew it was time to fly away from these church. Patience doesn’t cure addiction. Draw the line of family interaction expectations and treatment. If no attempt is made even through assistance to solve the problem then further boundaries must be made to protect your emotional health. Stand strong b/c it’s not easy and requires sacrifice of what you think is secure and possibly what wealth might of been accumulated. Truly preserving your emotional health is the wealth. Material goods can be replaced and education can be taken to make your life comfortable again.

Not that it necessarily helps in hindsight when you're right there dealing with the situation but if somebody is using vague ambiguous words and phrases also known as weasel words thats a pretty good indicator that the person is dishonest or at least that they are deceptive in nature.
