no. too much of the same thing with no real sense that they can actually play. Being freaky all the time doesnt cut it. The Butthole surfers were actually able to play and have a few very melodic songs. This did not cut it for me.

yes, i forgot to update tile and description. Short story: 100K resistor R19 right next to the valve was dead open. Replaced with another 100k 1/2W resistor and sure enough it became alive.

Well, I have about 100 phono cartridges and 50 headshells. And I like to do a lot of swapping. So the idea of adjusting at the headshell itself does not work at all for my purposes. I need the whole arm to be right. It is not at all clear to me what the usual cause of this angle error is. It seems to me that the whole arm sometimes is a little off as well as the headshell. I'm wondering if there might be something more to this than just a headshell of headshell socket alignment issue.We shall see. I have seen a lot of folks play around with the arm and get it all botched up and binding. So if it is a bit crooked, then I would make sure it is moving as freely as it should in all directions and that it is tight with no wobble anywhere. This may be an indication of a bigger misadjustment.

In my case there was some very slight wobble in the connection between the sleeve that screws onto the headshell and the tone arm. Using this wobble I was able to tighten the headshell into a straight position. But it obviously should be perfectly tight though it does not seem to effect the sound yet. But when I have time this will need a closer look.

This adjustment on the tonearm can't really be done, because the inner piece also has two threaded holes that match the ones on the arm. So when screwing the screws, it's crooked again. This is an machining problem of the internal part that cannot be corrected. The only solution is a headshell with azimuth adjustment.

The holes where the screws pass thru have a little play, so in my case it was possible to adjust within that range. If not enough (but then the arm is really messed up), one could disassemble the whole arm, then reach the underside and with a fine point dremel enlarge the holes laterally to allow a bit further rotation. Indeed an headshell with adjustable azimuth is much less of a hassle.
