Always liked this game, I'm very nostalgic for this era, in general. I still remember Sonic Spinball on the Genesis kiosk that was set up in Sears at the mall, Christmas season..you sound ike a younger guy, it's cool that you have good taste and appreciate the older stuff

For the platforming, just spin dash jump. Just like the classic Sonic games, you can just skip the with your brain.

Imagine if Sega released only two consoles: Genesis in 1991 and Dreamcast in 1996. Each with a 5-year lifespan and fewer Sonic games(and all are good). How'd that have been like? And how well would they've been recieved?

Then we would have more Sega consoles, but fewer games. Fewer games isn't always good though. While most of the Sonic games are pretty bad, Sonic still has a very interesting history. So yes he would be successful, but at what cost?

What if S3&K came out in 1993 as a full game in one cartridge? But as a smaller, fast-paced game like Sonic 2. How'd the game have been like? And what would've came out from 1994 onwards?

I think the lack of Lock-On tech would have hurt Sega's marketing a little, but other than that, I think reception would be about the same. This game should NOT have been rushed out.

What if in an alternate timeline, Sonic 1 had 10 Zones with 2 Acts each? Including 4 unused Zones from the concept arts(Japan, China, SE Asia, and Space). And all are fast-paced and fun. While always taking 30-50 minutes to beat. While Giant Rings are hidden like in S3&K. Also, what if Amy was introduced sooner in Sonic 1? While as a second playable character. With some Spin Attacks like Sonic's, but also with tarot abilities. While Sonic had the Insta-Shield, Homing Attack, Boost, and Jump Dash. And both hedgehogs had Spin Dash. And swimming abilities for both characters? And both 2P VS and Co-Op modes were included(while all Zones were playable). Also a Sound Test menu where Sonic and Amy play songs on stage. And if the 7th Chaos Emerald, a Hidden Palace Zone, and Super Forms(for both hedgehogs) were introduced? Imagine growing up in that parallel universe. How'd the first Sonic game have been like? How well would it have been recieved? And how'd all of you players have thought about it from your altered memories, experiences, and POVs?

What if in an alternate timeline, Sonic was a console-exclusive series in the 1990s? And if SegaSonic and Fighters were Genesis and Saturn-exclusives respectively?
@brentendo6424

The SegaSonic games would fade into obscurity, and probably be part of some kind of subscription, like Sonic Eraser. Sonic the Fighters would probably be a little more well known, but not too much.

@brentendo6424
@brentendo6424 2 күн бұрын
Sonic CD wouldn't be called Sonic CD. Knuckles Chaotix would be even more poorly recieved for performance, but probably praised more for the complex gameplay mechanics. While I think this would benefit Sega's profits a little, It would be terrible to lose the Sega CD. It was such a neat little device.

How'd the 8-Bit series have been like if only 3 games existed? As in: Sonic 1, Chaos, & Triple Trouble. With Amy and Knuckles playable in Chaos and TT. And with Metal Sonic replacing Knuckles as the antagonist.
@brentendo6424
@brentendo6424 2 күн бұрын
You'd have Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit, but 8-bit. Sonic Chaos would still be garbage, just having more playable characters. Sonic 1 would also still be just OK. The world would miss out a bit on Tails Adventure, and the rest of the games would not be missed.

In relation to Jon Burton's KZbin channels, I would highly recommend anyone wanting to play 3D Blast, play Jon Burton's ROM hack, Sonic 3D Blast Director's Cut. Jon Burton, the original director of the game, decided to refine Sonic's controls, add a non-Flicky mode, level select menu, password save system, and Super Sonic to the game! He even restored a few beta enemies that got cut from the final game.

I love 3D Blast! I only ever played the Genesis version as a kid. I think it's a really good game and the music is awesome! Some really nice tracks here. Yes, it's totally different from the previous Sonic games, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I think some go way overboard with the hate. People should give it a shot if they haven't, just go into it knowing it's not like the previous entries. Just have fun, you might actually like it (:

I was recommended this video on my home page btw. Just thought you’d like to know. Keep it up! I honestly love this game. It was one of my favorite, and I never got the hate for it. It could have been better in some areas, but I definitely wouldn’t call it a bad game. Also yes, the special stages are so fun, despite looking simplistic. They’re not frustrating, giving you enough time to react to the early 3D

Reviewing titles with names as big as Sonic, it's tough to be objective, but I think you did a good job with it. Personally, I think a good way to test this is to ask yourself, "If this was made by a different company and starred a different character, but the gameplay was the same, how would we be thinking about it now?" With a game like Sonic 3, if it had miraculously been Bubsy 2 instead, I think it would still be described as one of the greatest games of its generation. With Sonic 3D Blast, I think it would be fondly featured in a lot of "hidden gems" lists. The 3D isometric thing genuinely looks cool, especially for a 16-bit game, and the production values and control tightness are good enough to call it an upper-tier game of this sort. I just don't think it's on quite the same tier as the mainline series. Doesn't mean it isn't fun.

I think you're right. While the Sonic branding initially (massively) helped its sales, in the years following it instead gives it a harsher judgment than it probably deserves. I still think the gameplay is a bit underwhelming, but it is well polished and technically _very_ impressive.

I love this game. Thanks for the video. The 2017 release of Sonic 3D Blast Director's Cut by the original creator is the way to go with its improved gameplay and added features. Sadly, the game has now been delisted on Steam but the Director's Cut was available in Steam in the Sega Genesis Classics collection. The creator shows how to add it to your Steam Library here if you about the game before it being delisted. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5-llqOmhsx5fdk The patch also works on the Analogue Pocket, and you can get a repro cart of the game which I also did.

I wanted to love it. I beat Sonic Spin Ball, and was a huge Sonic fan as a '90s kid. This Sonic could never build up any speed, and was trying to pass off isometric pseudo 3D graphics as true 3D to a bunch of dumb kids. This game was what distanced me from Sonic.

I love Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island of the SEGA Saturn - it was the first Sonic game I ever owned, having skipped the megadrive/genesis in favour of the Super Nintendo back in the day. Personally my main problem with the game is that it's way too easy, as there's so many chances to stack-up lives and you can easily collect all the chaos emeralds well before the final zone. It's still surprising to me how poorly regarded this game is in sonic fandom. PS. I especialy enjoy the music diamond dust stages, act 2 in particular. They wouldn't have sounded out of place in Christmas Nights.
