A beautiful place. Was in the raf there in 1987 to 88. Learned to scuba dive in haroldswick bay and did a couple of dives in burra ffirth. Would love to go back to dive there again.

Cabin is almost empty... Are the flights subsidized by government mail and/or cargo contracts.... $600 - $1,000 / flight hour pay has to be generated somehow to stay in business....

Why does the helicopter need to taxi when it can take off vertically?
@willbertdsgc8 жыл бұрын
I would imagine it's to do with airport procedures - the rotor down-wash may cause problems close to the airport terminal, so I guess it's safer to taxi out to the runway and depart with the other aircraft.

Very much relate to this, I lived just down the road from here near Baltasound back around '83 while my dad worked at RAF Saxa Vord. I remember before we moved to the main camp we were housed in a little croft in the middle of a field of cows. It was just so different than anywhere I'd ever been I fell in love with the place, and like you have longed to return ever since
