You can find out how much the CEO and staff are syphoning off the boating taxes by checking the charity commission and other websites. Please read the various laws and acts of parliament regarding the Canal and Rivers Authority
@WidebeamandWellingtonsКүн бұрын
Yes the CEO was paid around £214,000 which has caused much controversy. However the aim of our video was to try and make sense of the cost to boaters 😳👍🏻😊
@dasdasdatics420Күн бұрын
@WidebeamandWellingtons If he's only on £214 G. Perhaps we should have a collection to make it up to £250 G so it'd be a good idea to put extra taxes on the Canal and River users until the situation becomes too expensive and forces everyone back into vans and caravans. Just an idea, can't have CEOs of a virtually privatised monopoly going around in rags etc

Random question, im thinking of getting a widebeam built if im lucky 😂 or settle for one on the market. My Only reason to build one is i use alot of water so would need a max sized tank as possible, as mrs likes baths. What toilet would you recommend installing? How good is pump out? Another question is how is the power? And what is the maximum power you can install in a boat is there a cap? As in solar ext... I use alot of power and would like full sized fridge, washing machine, dish washer. Electric cooker or go gass if i need to.. but my main concerns is i own a gaming PC that of course is powerful and using alot of juce / tv and consoles.. a heavy gamer in my spare time ( when ) 😂... But i just wanan get your thoughts on this... Sorry if i have confused you. Is this even possible because its a dream to be on a boat. Id probably be in a Marina most of my time, but don't allways wanna use shore power because i wanna be able to be self reliant and when we go cruising i dont wanna lose the luxury.
@WidebeamandWellingtons7 күн бұрын
Guess really the only restriction is how much you want to spend! It would potentially be difficult to find all of this on a second hand boat so would probably be easier on a new build but would cost! You’d cover the roof in solar and have a decent generator a 1000L water tank and a decent size waste tank too, pump out toilets are absolutely fine and pretty easy the bigger the waste tank the fewer visits to the pump out. You would also need a good top of the range water heater for the bath probably 9kw and a substantial battery bank we’d say lithium. You could have a chat to Paula at Bespoke Boat Company she’d be able to give you an idea of cost and make it clear that you want lots of power etc 😁

@WidebeamandWellingtons thanks for the response :) I know it's a very ambitious project, yeah I wonder what they could come up with, I'm sure it can be done but the question would be how much! 🥺 Ha!

If we didn't have such low bridges in the UK canals, i can see widebeams expanding like this, with the amount of space on widebeam roofs you can get two stories or half at least.
@WidebeamandWellingtons8 күн бұрын
You’re quite right! Think there are bigger barges on the Tidal Thames where the bridges are higher 😁

I am trying to talk my mom who is disabled to sell up and buy a wide beam with me. They have plenty of room for her and she always wanted to live close to nature anyway. She can walk around the house but stairs are a little difficult as she has to turn sideways and go one step at a time. She would need a wide plank to get on and off and she needs her scooter to go to the shops or supermarkets. There is also deliveries for food that would be well worth it.

@@WidebeamandWellingtons Hi, I have been watching many many videos like yours and I write a list down as soon as I see something of interest such as features , ease of use, economy of value and certain boats have very beautiful decor that catch my eyes. When I told my mom about the Swan or Duck hatches she really loved that. My mom is a huge animal lover like myself and she was surprised that people even keep cats on their boats with a safety harnesses just like my dog has:) I am considering a lot of things at the moment but I have to take it slowly and discuss all of these things with my mom. All I know is my mom would love it because it's out in the fresh air, amongst friendly people who I am sure love to help novices, also the pace seems great. Planning things through carefully without overstressing along with eating healthily will help me a great deal as I have suffered with depression in the past. I will be busy enough to stay focusses and I get on great with my mom all the time. I love the adventure aspect which gives me a drive to keep motivated. I am going to book a little holiday for myself my mom and my sister and hopefully my niece which will be quite exciting for when the weather turns a little warmer with longer days of sunshine:)

Like you we love cruising in the winter - how many battery amp hours? Are you normally on shore power? How many litres is your water tank and how long does it usually last? Do you have a gauge to show you how full it is? How big is your black water tank and how long does it last under “normal” use? BRILLIANT IDEA with the hinge on the plank!
@WidebeamandWellingtons26 күн бұрын
Hi 👋🏻 We have 300 useable amp hours. We’re no longer on shore power hence why we fitted the lithium. Our water tank is 500L and lasts around a week we do have a gauge for it. Our black water tank is 250L but we have a compost loo as well, we think it used to last around 2 weeks of continuous use. 😁

Put in a diesel generator no Lithium battery. It will burn your boat down and your insurance company has gone print letting them off the hook’ yes my insurance told me if I buy one I can not park it in the garage or near house -no liability coverage! Lithium breaks down from temperature swings especially in cold! Plus recharging degrade them with vibration. You just committed financial suicided. Better get your shit together quick,😅

Regarding your answer to Anita & Andy - they should google “Widebeam Canals UK Map” - in addition to the K&A down south there’s also the Grand Union (150 miles), Basingstoke, Lee & Stort plus of course the Thames. Up north the main canal is the Leeds & Liverpool (140 miles) the River Trent and the Trent & Mersey, Calder and Rochdale. You can of course do both North and South by trucking your canal boat between the different systems. There are also a number of boat builders now doing all electric propulsion. Hope your double glazing and thermal breaks work - you guys are in for some COLD weather….cheers Swanny

If you slip a small loop of ribbon with a knot under the rubber seal then put seal on you will have a pull loop always available without the tool being necessary. If you want the front ones to be removable they have magnetic seal like a refrigerator uses on the door. So then you can super glue or silicone small metal strips to hold plastic sheet, allowing you the ability to clean between the panes. Double windows have descant between the panes to remove the moisture.
