Is there a reason you prefer inks vs. acrylic washes? I imagine there is an argument that they give you better bang for your buck, but beyond that do you like the way they behave better? I've been messing around with oil washes but have never tried these inks.
@JeffMarxWoodworking3 күн бұрын
Great question it’s a variety of factors, and cost is definitely a big consideration I like the ability to control the characteristics depending on the project like finish and drying time. I think the main reason though is that I do a lot of airbrushing in my workflow, and I really like how these inks perform through an airbrush. It’s really just a bonus that they make great washes too
@MrNeelneel2 күн бұрын
@ oh that’s interesting. I JUST grabbed my first airbrush setup and have been getting my feet under me. I may have to grab some inks to run through it. I imagine they’d make a great filter. Thanks for the answer! Looking forward to future vids!

A really nice looking table top Jeff. Would routing out the sections for the t-tracks not have been easier? Also what grade or plywood did you use under the phelonic ply?
@JeffMarxWoodworkingАй бұрын
Thank you! I considered routing, and it might have been an equivalent or better option. I just used 3/4 Sandply from the orange place as the first layer. I appreciate your watching and commenting!

@JeffMarxWoodworking3 ай бұрын

I don't understand why you worked so hard to make it exactly square. I thought that it might be so that it sat in your chuck better for drilling, but then you did the drilling on a drill press. I could understand making the ends square so that you get a straight one on a drill press. But, it seems like extra work if you are just going to turn it round on the lathe.
@JeffMarxWoodworking3 ай бұрын
The goal in getting the rough rectangular blank was to have the grain running lengthwise. As you pointed out, square was less important prior to turning. Thank you.

Jeff, I am trying to replicate what you did, but i dont seem to have a bull nose live center. I am wondering what kind of live center piece you used.
@JeffMarxWoodworking3 ай бұрын
Sorry, it's been a while since I did this project. I have several live centers. The one I use the most has a small cone with a center spike, but any one you have should work adequately. Good luck, I hope yours turns out great and gives you lots of utility and fun on your lathe!

One thing I noticed on all pressure vessel lids is that the open threaded end of the valve assembly is facing directly downwards. Upon restoring ambient pressure the air rushes at taifun speeds throug that very open end, blowing the resin outwards. The reason is simple: There is no deflection unit anywhere. Adding a simple deflector disc will cannel the air in all directions across the surface area of your lid before being redirected downwards the vessel chamber wall, greatly reducing the airspeed and force applied. This will also prevent lightweight objects being tossed and justled uncontrollably. I have seen food-grade vaccuum chambers equipped with cover plate on the inlet port that prevent F5 tornado speeds inside the chamber as the vaccuum is destroyed.

I have a similar issue but with a problem: the peaked roof of a birdhouse. I can’t figure out how to clamp it. Maybe drive 3 screws in at the peak as a base for the clamp?
@JeffMarxWoodworking4 ай бұрын
You might be able to doublestick tape or temporarily glue some angled blocks to it as clamping cauls. Ideally you'd set that up so the clamping force is directly across your angled joint. Good luck!
