Hi ash, I'm 16 days post surgery today but i still experiencing blocked nose (sometimes on the left and sometimes on the right) especially during and after waking up from sleep. I'm using flo saline wash with sterimar nasal spray to clean them but i don't take any other medication (except Colustrum B-Plus coz i felt fatigued & tired during the day, maybe coz of my bad diet) . Based on your experience, how long did it take for u to easily breathe thru both nose and not experiencing blocked nose anymore ?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a question for you. My surgery was two weeks ago. I could breathe through both nostrils when the splints were removed. However, that only lasted for a day. Now I'm worried because I can only breathe through the side that had NO blockage even before surgery. And the side with the former blockage is still very congested (I can't breathe through it). Would you say that's normal? Did you start to breathe fully through both nostrils only after you've fully healed (so like 3-4 months post-op)? 😊

Keep up with your 3+ warm saline rinses everyday and do “gentle” facial stretching many times a day (but without tearing anything). Treat it like physical therapy. You have to keep things moving and stretching a bit as it all heals. My opinion and what’s working for me. My opinion, believe it or not, eating low carb and mostly red meat, bacon, eggs, bone broth etc. and a little extra collagen for a week or two will (or for life) speeds healing and will keep inflammation low.

This happened to me too. I found a study that RA will fail 27% of the time during obstetric surgery. It's the highest failure rate of any community. And why? Mostly due to being given insufficient medicine. If you want to talk, message me. I did 42 hours of labor for my "failure to progress" c-section that was done with the failed spinal. The staff was mean to me as well. They made me feel ashamed of being in pain and begging for help. The doctor kept saying, "It's just pressure. It's just pressure. It's just pressure." I've only watched half your video so far. But I relate to a lot of it. I really would love to be able to talk to you about it.

IT IS COMMON!!!!!!! IT IS NOT RARE! YOU ARE NOT WEIRD! People just don't care. 27% of RA will fail during obstetric surgery. More than any other category. Why? Not giving enough medication was the #1 reason. This is happen because doctors believe women lie and exaggerate pain. That's the core issue here. And the fear of lawsuits leads to an adversarial doctor vs patient scenario where the doctor is trying to gaslight and hide anything negative that may have happened even literally WHILE IT IS HAPPENING. And that systemic trickery and lies... Fuck... Makes it all so much worse. I just want to know what happened to me. But I can't find a lawyer or expert willing or able to explain it or investigate. I just want closure.

I’m so sorry you had to go through this as well. It’s a traumatic experience and it was extremely hard to get through my next two pregnancies. I won’t be having anymore kids now as it get riskier with each repeat c section. I never went through with any lawsuit because it’s very hard to sue a doctor and win so I’d just be wasting money. I just switched doctors with my last two pregnancies and they went a lot smoother and my doctors listened to my concerns. It was a much better experience.

Breathing out of my nose was an adjustment at first. It did feel weird, almost like I was getting too much air but I think it’s just because I wasn’t getting enough before. I’m almost one year post op and I feel great! I barely got sick over cold and flu season and my allergies aren’t as bad as they were before the surgery. Working out is easier as well now that I’m able to get more airflow through my nose. Make sure you put sunscreen on your incision site, it will help minimize scaring (at least that’s what my surgeon told me). My scar is so faint that it’s not noticeable unless you get extremely close to my nose. I don’t even see the scar myself.

So Ellie's going to be wearing glasses to correct her nearsightedness. I don't know what her optometrist told you but that is probably going to mean new glasses every year or so from now on. Her myopia is most likely the result of genes from either you or her dad depending on which one of started wearing glasses at a young age. Mom I saw later in the video you were wearing your glasses and that's a really good idea because Ellie's much more likely to accepting her need for glasses if she sees you wearing your glasses all the time also. In looking at your glasses Ash I can't really tell if your nearsighted or farsighted but your glasses don't appear to be very strong at all. So if Ellie got her eyes from your genes that should mean her vision should be about the same prescription as you are when she's your age. Like her mother, Ellie looks really cute wearing her glasses and even better she doesn't seem like wearing glasses is a problem at all. She seems more interested her loose tooth than her glasses. Watching your video reminds me of a little girl about 5 or 6 years old at the time. her mother brought her in for an eye exam because she was concerned that her daughter insisted on sitting very close to the TV. The doctor prescribed her glasses for nearsightedness like Ellie got. Only when her glasses were ready she threw a fit and refused t wear them. They left with the daughter screaming. A few days later the mother came in and was trying on frames and i asked her if i could help her. She told me that she was having a terrible time with her daughter not wanting to wear her glasses and a friend suggested that her daughter would be more agreeable if she wore glasses herself. But she didn't need glasses so she was only wanting to buy a pair with no prescription. But when I added up the cost of the cheapest pair of glasses it was around $150.00 nd insurance wouldn't be of any help since she didn't have a prescription. As she was about to leave she noticed the donation box near the door that was running over with glasses. She asked me if she could maybe borrow a pair of the donated glasses to wear to see that would get her daughter started wearing her glasses and if they worked she would bring them back at some point. I told het would be fine and actually a pretty good idea if she could find a pair in the box. We weren't busy so i told her to use the counter to go through the glasses. After about 20 minutes she had 4 pairs off to one side and the rest back in the box. She asked which looked the best. My optical assistant was only a few years younger than her so we both were going to pick what we each liked best. As it turned out we both liked the same pair on her. A really cute semi-rimless pair wit slight "cat-eye" shape. The only question was could see wearing them? I did a good cleaning of the glasses and even did a fitting so they would be as comfortable as possible. i was curious what the prescription was so i checked that also and it really wasn't very strong. it was right eye - .75 -.25 122/ left eye -1.00. They actually looked really good on her. I gave her case for them and started to put them in the case when she said she was going to wear them so she could start getting used to wearing them. I told her to let us know if her wearing glasses worked. About a moth later she came in with her daughter and they were both wearing their glasses. The daughters glasses were quite crooked on her face and needed some work to get them back in shape. I had my assistant do that while I talked to mom. She said the glasses worked perfect and her daughter was fine as long as she was also wearing glasses. And i asked her how she was doing with wearing glasses herself and she said she always thought glasses looked really cute on other people but she thought wearing glasses was probably very uncomfortable to wear. she said she was surprised at how comfortable her glasses were. She said her husband really likes seeing her wearing glasses. And she said her eyes seemed to have no problem adjusting to them. She said she was hoping I would sell them to her so she could continue wearing them. I told her i couldn't sell them to her but if she feels she needs them she could have them since that was the purpose of the donated glasses anyway. Going tp people that need them. She thanked me and her daughters glasses were finished and back on her so they left. When spring came mother and daughter were back. They were both getting eye exams. The daughter for her 6 month checkup and mom was interested in picking out frames for prescription sunglasses. She wanted them made in the same prescription as her glasses she was wearing. I suggested she should get her eyes checked in case she might need a little stronger prescription. She agreed. As it turned out she didn't need an increase but she did have a prescription for glasses for the first time. Her real prescription was -.50 in both eyes. But since was perfectly happy with her current glasses we made her sunglasses in that same prescription. There was -.25 increase in her daughters left eye which the doctor decided not o bother about until her next exam.

Ellie’s dad has the same issues as her and started wearing glasses around the same time. She loves her glasses and never wants to take them off. Our insurance covers a once a year visit so we will be going back in a year to have her eyes checked again. I wear the lightest prescription possible, my optometrist told me it was up to me if I wanted them or not and they do make a difference to me especially since I work on my computer a lot and it also helps with driving at night and I’ve noticed I get migraines less frequently.
@soundmanpt2 жыл бұрын
@@ashshifflet Thank you for your reply. I had a feeling it wasn't you but her dad that was an early glasses wearer because I could tell that your glasses are pretty weak. So I didn't think you were wearing glasses at a real young age. In fact you probably only got your glasses in the last year or so. Since it was up to you about getting or not getting glasses your right, you must have the weakest prescription possible. But even being very weak I'm sure they make enough difference that you're glad you got them. You probably don't know your prescription but I'm guessing you're maybe a little nearsighted with a small amount of astigmatism. If you were able to see and read the 20/20 line of the eyechart pretty well it's possible that you may only have astigmatisms. Astigmatisms effects your eyesight at all distances So those same letters on the eyechart would be sharper and clearer with glasses even though you are able to see them without glasses. That would be the reason your able to see better wearing glasses when driving at night. A symptom of astigmatisms is very often frequent headaches which wearing glasses has seemed to help with. Since you still do get migraines, just less often, you should try wearing your glasses all the time for a week to see if that might not stop the migraines completely. Even a very weak astigmatism prescription can often make a big difference in regards to headaches. I know you probably don't want to be wearing glasses all the time but if it were to stop the migraines I don't think you mind all that much would you. The good thing about astigmatism correction is that it generally doesn't change much if at all. So your prescription I would expect to remain about the same from now on. Wearing glasses full time isn't in anyway going to weaken your eyes and you will still be able to see nearly perfect without glasses. It's only going to prevent the migraines. You have nothing to loose by trying for a week. If it works, which I really think it will, then you will have to decide which is better wearing your glasses and no headaches or wearing them as you have been and still getting migraines occasionally. Since you spend a lot of time in front of your computer you should probably consider getting a blue light blocking coating on your lenses to help reduce eyestrain and eye fatigue and of your prescription as well. When are you due to get your eyes checked again? Anyway I'm glad to hear that Ellie loves her glasses so much that she never wants to take them off. Did the doctor say anything about her having astigmatisms when he examined her eyes? I assume she's already wearing her glasses all the time since she doesn't even want them off anymore and that's fine. I can see what a good mom you are so I'm sure you asked her about how well she is able to see things now with and without her glasses. Her prescription is likely to change by next year but also after about 6 months start having her read some signs at a distance to make sure she doesn't need an eye exam sooner. Lastly since all three of you wear glasses and even though you have insurance glasses can still be expensive. Next time you're at your computer doing some work take a break and take a look at these glasses sites. My girls in the office were constantly ordering their extra glasses from these sites as well as others. I'm only showing you the sites I thought were the best. Lensmart Eyewear, Zenni Optical, Payne Glasses and Eye Buy Direct. They do offer kids glasses but I'm sure you would feel better getting her glasses from a local optical store. But for your husband and you this could save you lots of money. I'm assuming that your husband wears single vision glasses which is what your glasses are also. So theses sites all offer glasses starting as low as $6.95 and that includes single vision lenses in whatever prescription you both need. That blue light blocking coating is only an option of $16.95. Anyway just take a look at the glasses for both of you. It's really easy to order your own glasses by the way.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Can you explain more what it was like to get the anesthesia/put to sleep? I'm super nervous for that part. I'm curious what you remember about that whole process?

It was super easy! I usually don’t react well to anesthesia but it went so good this time. The anesthesiologist gave me some medicine in my IV before I went back to the operating room and it made me feel super relaxed then I got into the operating room they put some more medicine in my IV and I was out and woke up in recovery and was just sleepy. Just talk to your anesthesiologist and let them know how you’re feeling about being put under and they can talk you through it more and will probably give you something to ease your nerves. 😊 I hope this helps!
