I REHABBED A STAGE 5 IVDD DOG NO CLINICS NO SURGERY!! My vet tried to get me to put down my baby because I wasn't going to be able to afford her surgery. I refused and took the conservative route. I did the bed rest for a month and mind you they diagnosed her with no feeling in her back legs and let he spine heal before rehabbing her on my own. I first tried the wheel chair and she hated it so I became her legs. Than after months of trying to do research I said screw it and taught her how to stand. This is at the 6 month mark when she finally got some strength and feeling even. The next thing I did was move her legs back and forth manually and do squat exercises where you get their legs to bend and let them push them selves back up. Now at 7 months she is wobbly but moving stand squatting on her own. Again not perfect yet but DON'T PUT DOWN YOUR BABY PLEASE!!!!

THE GOOD ADVICE I COULD GIVE HERE AFTER MY DOG CONOR HAD TO BE PUT DOWN A MONTH AGO. WHEN THE DOG STARTS HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. THEY WILL DIAGNOSE IT AS HIP DYSPLASIA LIKE THEY DID WITH CONOR. I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT DM. SO THEY PUT HIM ON NSAIDS. AND FOR THE FIRST MONTH HE WAS GOOD LIKE SUPERMAN AND AFTER THAT HE JUST DETERIORATED AND BECAME PARALYZED IN ALL FOUR LEGS. HIS STOOL WAS COMING OUT BLACK AND TARRY. WHAT I BELIEVE HAPPENED IS IT'S A COMBINATION OF BOTH THE SPINAL CORD AND THE JOINTS. I THINK THE NSAIDS KILLED THE PAIN IN THE JOINTS AND WHEN HE WAS MOVING ABOUT LIKE A SUPER DOG. HE DESTROYED WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE JOINTS BECAUSE THE PAIN IS A WARNING SIGN TO TAKE IT EASY. ONCE IT GOT NUMBED HE WAS WRECKING THE JOINTS. BILL WALTON FROM THE BOSTON CELTICS. MY BROTHER RECENTLY TOLD ME. INJURED HIS ANKLE YEARS BACK AND THEY INJECTED HIM WITH PAINKILLERS AND HE PLAYED AND DESTROYED HIS ANKLE TO THE POINT WHERE IT ENDED HIS CAREER. THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE DOGS. WITH THIS USE OF NSAIDS I STRONGLY BELIEVE DON'T USE THEM. SEEK AN ALTERNATIVE. AND I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE NSAIDS INTERFERED WITH THE SIGNALS IN THE SPINAL CORD NUMBING THE THE DISCS. IF THESE NSAIDS ARE GOOD. THEN WHY WAS HE BLEEDING INTERNALLY WITHIN A MONTH OF TAKING THE NSAIDS. MY ADVICE IS TO NEVER GIVE THEM THE VET PRESCRIBED AND NSAIDS. YOU'RE BETTER OFF GIVING THEM A BABY ASPIRIN A DAY. HUMAN NSAIDS LIKE ASPIRIN, ADVIL, MOTRIN, TYLENOL IS A MUCH BETTER CHOICE IN MY OPINION, BUT DO YOUR RESEARCH. BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT ULCERATE THE COLON THAT CAN BE A DEATH SENTENCE IN ITSELF. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT DM I WOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM NOTHING AND TOOK HIM FOR SHORTER WALKS AND DID SOMETHING DIFFERENT LIKE THE THERAPY THAT IS PRESENTED IN THIS VIDEO AND HE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE LIVED FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS EVEN MORE. THE PAINKILLERS DID HIM IN. DON'T TAKE THAT ROUTE EVER. IT'S JUST MY OPINION FROM MY EXPERIENCE. BUT YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

Thank you for your video. It is really helpful... My dog Monty has been incontinent for 10 months... He can still get up unassisted, I have kept him walking the whole time.. He can walk quite well and I use a dog buggy for times when he's tired.. I use indoor washable nappies.. He has been incontinent for about 9 months, which does at times weigh on me - especially when he poops indoors. I express his bladder and make him poop before bed time which helps. Lately he seems to be having more spasms in his neck area, he groans a lot during his spasms, and his head jerks during this process. He has also had 3-4 awful episodes of vestibular disease but has not had an episode in over a year.. He has thrown up a few times lately... I do sometimes think he's choking.. I do wonder if he's getting worse.. He loves his food, he's his most happy self when he's in the park sniffing around., he loves people, attention, so he seems quite happy still.. He's very good and will go to the buggy when he needs a rest.. I am still not sure if it is D.M. as he had perthes disease in both hips, so his lameness could be that vs DM? I have avoided the vet due to financial circumstances, I spent a huge amount of money in the last 2 years during his vestibular episodes, hence it has been difficult to revisit the vet. Plus my other dog has acute leukemia so my expenses have been very high.. He is 12, and due to his issues is uninsurable. He is a big west highland terrier and weighs 14 kg. My instagram page is lipliscious. instagram.com/p/CEWy-S_ptzM/ Any thoughts would be appreciated. Jacqueline.

@Amit Dutta, hello, I have a similar situation to yours, my dog has separation anxiety (this pandemic has made things worse since I now spend every waking minute with him), he too would begin to nibble at his arms, sometimes drawing a bit of blood. Our nearest pet hospital gave him only about 2-3 months to live. With a drastic change in diet I believe I was able to slow down DM and it’s been a year since the diagnosis and my dog is still fine. After purchasing a dog wheelchair (recommend Huggiecart) my dog has been able to move around and it has helped with his anxiety as he no longer bites his arms. Good luck to you; it is a difficult decision but we, as their parents know best what they’re feeling and whether it is the right time for them.

Hi Nicole: typically DM comes on much slower, a noted drag of a back paw, or a bit of a wobble in the back end. I’m not a vet but would suspect something more acute happened , a pulled psoas muscle, or a slipped disc. Trusting today is a better day for him. My best to you and your dog.

Hi Veronica. thanks for sharing your dogs story. For a young dog he was mostly born with this condition...it could range from a spinal defect to hip weakness that ultimately has led to his weakened posture. You may want to consider an xray at some point. Be very observant of any further changes in his condition and perhaps consider having Response5 at hand to address this neurological condition:) www.response5.com my best to you and your dog ~ Debi

This video is a bit old but I'll still comment...I have a 10 yr old Boxer who was diagnosed with DM IN 10/2019. Hes almost completely lost his back mobility. I've gotten him a wheelchair. I understand PT can help but to those of us who cannot afford the cost do you have any tips for at home? Busters condition might be too far gone now but there are others who would love to hear your recommendation or at home tips. I understand "hope" is what your getting at but with DM "Hope" can be pricey. What about tips to get the dog used to a wheelchair? Anything at all will help. Thanks for your video

Ria I’m so sorry . This disease truly is cruel. With this pandemic I can’t afford PT or much of anything either that’s why i figured the tape might be a good try. I’m indecisive about the chair option because I know her and she will be just like yours, not having any part of it. I got creative and made her booties from rubber gloves figuring it would help with traction and I could tell it helped her. I massage her legs and back everyday She actually lets me know she needs help. I’m just trying to keep her happy and minimize pain or suffering. It’s very very hard to go thru!

Thank you for sharing your varied journey with trying to find a solution for your dog. We love our Vets but so often the drugs that they are limited to offering really do not address the problem and are very harsh on the dogs body. I'm all in for a more effective and natural approach! There are two approaches to resolving a neurological condition such as Wobblers. One is a RELIEF approach such as what you are seeing with the CBD oil, the other is a CHANGE approach which gets to the root of the neurological issue such as the case with applying Response5 (.com). Thank you once again for sharing, information is valuable!!
