Nice review! You mentioned the Ortofon Blue but didn't comment on it. Is the Blue similar to the Red, being lean? How does MP110 stack up against it? Thanks for any insights you can provide.

I have not spent a lot of time with the Blue in that system. From what I heard it is still lean but not strident on the treble region. A bit more attack than the MP110. Some more listening is required before I make an opinion on the blue.

Hey. Quite off topic here, but I saw Antonio Sanchez play drums along to the 'Birdman' movie (that he did the music for) tonight in Kalamazoo. He took a solo at the end that was incredible! I'm digging into his work he did with Pat Metheny Group. Terrific drummer!

The Goldring E3 is a contender in this price range. I had the earlier Elektra (discontinued) which can still be bought as NOS from LP Gear for $130. It's more neutral than the MP-110 but not as rich sounding.

Totally agree with you! ... the MP110 is a beautiful sounding cartridge for the price. I use it with a Rega P6 ... and it copes with all of my 1970's (not very well looked after) albums beautifully ... The sound from it is totally musical and extremely enjoyable. The Nagaoka is definitely not "overhyped" great review , thank you 👍👍👍

@Analogholic in your opinion willl D20R go near declared 28 Hz without needs to go up on decibels? Do you notice that bass are coherent withmusic reproduction for lower hertz like piano or cello?

I believe I replied to you on a comment on the DT8 video. The D20R had no problem with 30hz test tones in my >10k cu ft listening room at ~ 80db listening levels. The deep weighty bass on cello, piano was pleasurable via the D20r via my electronics.

Yes, there are quite a few VTA/Azimuth tools you can buy online that allow you to visually measure the impact to VTA by using shims. Combine that with a headset mounted magnifying glass and light to make this easy.

This thing is brilliant. I've literally been listening to it for the past 4 hours. I just got it today. Ive thrown everything at it and its just gorgeous the sound. Its up against a Goldring Elite MC , an Ortofon Quintet Bronze and a Paratracer retipped Denon 103r. This beats them all by a fair bit. I was lucky and took a chance on it 2nd hand but I'dve paid full if I had heard it in a demo. I really like my little group of cartridges but this one is spoiling the hell out of me.🎸🎧🎵

@@analogholic_reviews yes, im a Hifi Copywriter in Germany and i had the change to compare These 2 Amps against eachother. Speakers were Fink Team Kim and EPOS ES14n. Cables Gutwire and Cardas. My Setup is slightly in the richer but still balanced side of Presentation. I love the Qutest Dac that i use with my SBooster MK2 but Atoll is a different beast when it comes to dynamic and soundstage. These are 2 aspects that are Essential in my opinion. Check it out if you have the chance. Its simply stunning what the french Brothers are offering. The best thing is, every amp is made in France, even the Case...

Great review sir. These are incredibly good speakers. I had a pair of AE309s and then (stupidly!) traded them in for some Wharfedale Linton 85s mainly because I got seduced by their look, but I never really liked the sound of them despite really trying to for 14 months - I just found the treble horribly grainy with anything but the very best recordings, and they didn’t have as much bass as I felt they should have had. So I sold the Lintons and upgraded to some AE509s in the piano black finish. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made - they are easily my favourite speakers I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning, they sound absolutely amazing partnered with my Rega P8/Ania Pro/Aria 3 and my Luxman LX-380 amp - silky smooth but with bags of detail - man I love this combo!

@@analogholic_reviews thank you! Yes it’s built like an absolute tank tbh everything about it screams quality it’s the highest quality item I’ve probably ever owned - even the back of it is beautiful lol. I was slightly worried about it only having 20wpc before I bought it coming from a 120wpc Yamaha, but it’s oddly powerful I think it’s a 20 true watts into 6ohms and I have never had the volume past 11 o’clock. Some people recommended upgrading the tubes but I don’t really know much about it, but could be a fun upgrade when the time comes to replace the supplied tubes, which by the way are absolutely fine. Take care cheers

I own the at33ptgii and the atOC9XSL and several other audio technica cartridges. The at33ptgii is the best all around listener. Full sounding. Clear and balanced. Easy to listen to any type of music. One of the best carts I’ve ever had. The oc9xsl is very detailed and a bit more active in the highs. It is also a fine cartridge and when I switch, I miss the highs and airiness. They both exceed their cost in terms of quality, sound and durability. @@analogholic_reviews I have a hybrid system that I use for both stereo listening and home cinema purposes. Pre was Yamaha CX-A5200 with an old Yamaha AV receiver as power amp (temporary system till I could get what I wanted). Upgraded to Musical Fidelity M6s pre and power amp (power amp has an input selector on the front panel, so I use XLR from the M6s pre for stereo and RCA from the A5200 for movies). Also added a three channel purifi power amp from Audiophonics for center and rear channels (and upgraded to a very nice REL sub). With the upgrade, while the sound has much more authority (especially in the lower octaves) and is less fatiguing and I overall like it, it feels like it has less headroom (which is crazy, as the M6s has triple the rating of the Yamaha I was using) and have lost a bit of the 3D sound I had before (on certain songs I had the illusion of certain sounds coming from behind my couch, it was THAT wide)

I hear your here and I have had both belt drive and direct drive. I have own a ton of turntables in my life time to include Rega and Technics. At a certain price level of the Rega P10, P8, Technics 1200G, GR and even the New Denon DP-3000NE, you aren’t giving up SQ, especially with the direct drive models when you get into removable Headshells. Heck VPI is using a direct Drive model, but no removable Headshell. Removable headshells are all based on the SME design, which is used in models like the highend Luxman 191-A, which is simply remarkable and I would put it up against almost anything from other manufacturers, especially at its price point. I have heard highend turntables like the 20 and 30 series that would put a lot of tables to shame. At a certain price point we are talking about Tonearm designs, platters and sub platters in belt drive and cogless or not in direct drive, along with arms. I still own a VPI Classic, but own a Technics sl1200GR and a Denon DP-3000NE. I can set up the VPI in quick order, even though it is a unipivot. The VPI has the better tone arm, which differences on some music can b heard if you listen for it, but bass and rhythmic drive is better on the direct drive models. My direct drive tables hold their own, which the Denon is using mass and weighing almost as much as the VPI, with better feet, like the feet of the signature series. Many reviews have been done of the Technics SL-1200G by Michael Fremer and others and the 1200G gives up very little to his expensive Caliburn and their was a review with the 1200G going up against a higher end Bergman, with audio for both of these reviews and both Fremer and the other guy were surprised at how well the SL1200G is. At this price point we are talking cartridges and phono preamps. A removable Headshell in 2024 holds no turntable back in terms of sound quality and every turntable is a compromise, but removable headshells allows you so much more versatility in mono and stereo cartridges, which allows you to make changes in minutes. Also you can put a stylus in the groove of a record, hit the on button and speed will be obtained almost instantly, which is something no belt drive table can do.
