I think it was a turkey vulture mistaking that thing for a dead animal. Kinda kidding. Actually a baddass vid. Love the older choppers. My father-in-law flew and trained others in the UH-1 and finished off with the Ct national guard.

I never knew helicopters can be piston powered

All they need is a power source to spool up the main/tail rotor and keep it moving once the main rotor blades are pitched to create lift.

crikey it’s a piston 😱 I flew the S55 whirlwind but it had a turbine conversion. but NO throttle correlation at all, so a feather touch was needed

Somewhat similar and familiarity to the CH-19 in overall design and flight procedures. Clutch and drive shaft and gear box arrangement for tail and main rotors control. Radial air cooled piston engine access behind nose clamshell doors. A useful center of gravity variation length and width.

Surely you know about autorotation in case of engine loss, and the fact that tail rotor loss does not mean death if at cruising speed. However, both are really only applicable at cruising speed/altitude, and I can provide a wikipedia source if interested
@scootypuffjr.2 жыл бұрын
@@glonkfpv You need some altitude to auto rotate. And that does you no-good if there is a failure with the cyclic or collective. A tail rotor failure at any speed is bad news. I'd rather be in a plane with a mechanical failure than an antique helicopter

@@scootypuffjr. A helicopter can flare and touch down at near zero speed in an auto , try doing that in an aeroplane
