patri sir as usual rocked it . i'll call him modern day UKS sirbcoz he plays as fast as UKS as far as i am concerned and also he toys like anything with tala playing complex patterns jus like UKS. But on the flipside, the ghatam player flunked it. He couldnt hold a candle to patri's playing. and also he slipped in some places. Meanwhile, the young girl kept the beat well. she looks a typical keralite. pachha malayalee literally!!

Well, she is keeping the ' BEAT'. It comes automatically and spontaneously to all music performers and singers not just carnatic musicians and vocalists. This is an important and critical aspect of the singers and musicians in classical and Carnatic performances.

She's essentially keeping the beat. But it is nuanced. Each 'clap' of her hand means something to the mridundam player. This tala or beat is called Khanda Triputa. Khanda means 5. Triputa is a style of the beat where it is (x+4)x4. So Khanda is the x. So the beat is basically a 9x4.
