so Maple looks to be a good wood, what other woods are good that won't leave behind the rings?

I use clear pine for all of my large engraves. Wide grain is the best, the tighter the grain the more lines. Cedar engraves a little dark, but clear cedar engraves really nice. It is just difficult to find larger clear pieces that are kiln dried. I always use kiln dried so that when I seal it, it should stay looking good for years.

This is all great information. Nice laser equipment collection. This is the kind of information we don't usually get in other videos. I own three diode lasers and a Shapeoko CNC, and information like this can save you a pile of scrap going in blind. Thanks again

Thank You. I'm glad you liked it. I have more in the works. I try to share what I learn to help others, because there are a lot of different options with the lasers. Are you running XCS or something else? How do you like the Shapoko?

I myself am considering getting the 20w with the IR. Wondered if you think the same process will work
@burntwoodworkshopАй бұрын
It should engrave fine with the 20watt. You just need to adjust power and speed a little. I am going to try it on my 10watt M1 Ultra next.

I also have the IR on the way. I can't wait to try ir.

Beautiful butterfly. I'll be watching for more. I liked the piece before you painted it about as much as after.

Thank you, I will have a video on working with acrylic with the s1 40watt soon.

Great video thanks. Quick question, do you need a 40W laser to get that level of depth? Could it be done on say a 24W diode laser?
@burntwoodworkshop4 ай бұрын
I would think so I am running at 55% power. And I can't remember speed. You could up power slower speed or more passes. I ran tests on scrap pine first.

Hi, I’m watching this from the UK as I’m trying to find as much information as possible regarding starting a laser business/hobby. It refreshing to see videos from someone who isn’t just doing a slick sales pitch and actually going through the creation process. I initially thought I would need the xtool P2 but from what I’ve seen I now think the S1 will work better for me. I will be producing engravings, marquetry and decorative items and posting KZbin videos which I hope turn out as well as yours. I’m considering getting the 2w infra red module or a separate F1 for engraving onto metal, I would like to ask if you have ever felt the need for a second laser and if so which one would you get to compliment your S1? Also, I would like to sell my creations in order to fund the laser and make a little extra early retirement income so I’m perhaps considering just buying a second S1 to increase production once I have learned to use the first, do you find that the production times are frustrating or do you find that it gives you time to clean and finish your carvings? Thanks for the video and I look forward to seeing your future work.

I'm glad my video was helpful. I try to share what I learn as I go. I would definitely add another laser in the future. My problem is I can't decide. I'm leaning toward the M1 Ultra for the printing and vinyl capability. But another S1 would speed things up. My 3d engraves take about 2 hours. I paint them while engraving another one, but I also run a lot of layered items so If you have the budget 2 machines would be a big help. I have more videos on the way.

I'm glad I could help, I have a lot more coming. What are you running for a laser?

I’ll keep watching 👍. I’m running the same as you… S1 40watt 😁

I am a new xTool S1 40w owner/user and new to lasers all together. I enjoyed this video and your instruction. Would you please provide the butterfly file so that I may use it to produce this item?
@burntwoodworkshop4 ай бұрын
I bought the file on Etsy from Todayyoursunnyday. I don't own the file so I can't share it. I bought their whole store bundle and got a lot of great laser files, for a very reasonable price. I'm glad you enjoyed my video, I have more in the works for the S140watt machine.
