The GT500 came 3 years after the ZL1 giving it 3 years at the drawing board to figure out what it will take to compete with the Camaro . Them ZL1's are no joke and I'm sure Ford shit its pants knowing they had quite a task in front of them ( probably why it took them 3 years and 20 to 30 grand more to do so ) Why GM didn't easily tweak the LT4 engine to gain 50 to 70 HP is a mystery to me and that's where I give Ford credit .

Corvette Politics prevented GM from Beefing up the ZL1 any further. Especially after the C7 Z06 turned out to be a disaster with all the overheating issues. They really needed to throw the ZR1 engine (LT5) in the ZL1 for a final send off but it never happened unfortunately.

because GM is fucking stupid. Anyone paying attention to the Escalade V knows good and fucking well GM could have made a ZL1 that competes HP for HP with the GT500. It was as simple as putting the 2650 off the LT5 on the ZL1 LT4 instead of leaving the 1.7L on, just like they conveniently did with the Escalade V LT4. Damn things make 800whp+ with boltons barely trying and 1.7 guys have to port the blower, heads/cam to get there lol. Bullshit corvette vs Camaro performance politics.

When mustang owners/haters loose they always cry "Stock for stock"🌈 I'd hope the GT500 is faster in a roll race. The car is worth 100k. A used one is 86-90k. You can find a used zl1 on marketplace for 50-60k; around 65-75k new. Dollar for performance Chevy all day. I wouldn't call a stage 1 package far from a stock GT500. Just wait till stage 4 with a bigger cam & heads. I like how it takes mustangs four cams from factory to compete with a stock Camaro and the moment a Camaro gets a bigger cam and heads y'all cry🌈 "stock for stock". Its not our fault yall paid extra cause you don't know how to get your hands dirty when adding mods. Relying on warranties or other people to do your work. But i get it, LS has dominated for so long now that your competing now you want to talk.

Trying to decide on a ZL1 or a C8. My bro just got the C8 and it sounds amazing stock. I haven't had the chance to listen to a ZL1 in person but I'd bet it would need an exhaust.

Would love to see a data log on both these cars. Looks like the factory torque management is closing the throttle blade. (That can be tunes out/better) Also I bet they are pulling timing for spark knock detection since they are running 91. The factory tune runs about the max timing possible for 93. (I still see knock on 93 most times) If it detects to much knock it will refrance a second timing map that greatly reduces the timing (to save the engine) and subsequently power

Hey sounds mean as hell! Do you know the part # you ordered? Everything on the borla site only says the axle backs are only for the SS. They only show catback for the ZL1. Kind of lost.

Sounds the same to me - GT500 has one of if not THE best stock exhausts on any car I have ever heard I would not change mine until or unless I found a system that contributed extra HP to the car so far to date there is none to speak of including this overpriced collaboration of twisted metal

I don't know why anyone would change the cat-back on any mustang that had that active exhaust. I heard a new Bullitt Mustang last year...my God in Track Mode its insanely loud. What more do you need?

What changes with the gt500 cause like you said it’s current set up is perfect as is. But what changes is the pitch and rasp which is difficult to pick on phones, and some audio devices. Plus freeing up your exhaust from resonators and baffles you get better air flow, and performance increases noticeably.

You can gain HP with this type of exhaust its been proving on multiple videos on the dyno , not to mention this exhausts is lighter in weight than stock

Whoever did the work on the 1LE must have forgotten to do something. There’s absolutely no way that with Kooks headers, full exhaust and a tune that 1LE is only getting 20HP. Seen guys dyno runs getting 25hp with just a corsa axle back. I’d get that shit retuned somewhere else immediately

That and the stock zL1 was only at 529 hp. That’s low!, Should be around 540-560 all day . RPM (race proven motor sports ) has done 100’s of these zL1 and they all end up at 540-560 whp . stock. Could be a low guy from the factory I just think it’s low and they suck at tuning where ever this guy went
