Okay, don't get rid of your old drill press. There's a lot of things you can do with that old drill press. You can set it up for a specific job at a specific speed and have it do that. There's a lot of things you can do with your old drill press. I don't have the harbor freight drill. Press your old one. I've got the one that's the 12-speed but they're very good at setting up for a specific single job and believe it or not drill presses don't have to be used for drilling holes. You can set them up with a sanding wheel. You can set them up with buffing wheels you could set them up to do specific work just an option

Don’t use your new drill press as mill. Drill presses are not designed for lateral cutting. Maybe experiment with your older drill press with very light cuts as it could damage the bearings. The vices you are referring to are cross slide vices and rotating indexible vices.

If I understand where you are going with the idea of a cross slide, Can't use a drill press as a mill to cut slots. The taper holding the drill chuck in the spindle is only a friction fit. The vibration will cause the taper to come loose and the chuck will fall out. Mills have threaded draw bars that hold their tapers in. You can use end mills and even fly cutters to open up a hole, but have to use them like a drill bit.... Only plunge cuts, no horizontal slotting or facing
