Great video , thanks for the detailed explanation I’ve been considering getting a custom skate. Do you think using a 4mm is more advantageous than the 3mm? I switched to 3mm a year ago and I never really liked it .

I use a CAG 80/160 which is a flat spot 80 mm from center of blade to the front and 80MM to the back center. Very few places can do this bc they don't have a CAG machine only the prosharp or some other machine . Kids , don't get some designer profile if u don't know what u want like SAM profile, all these store are pushing hard trying to sell u 40-60$ jobs for additional revenue when the standard 27 -29' radius works. Find out what is wrong, then change. Regardless, u need a profile when u get new skate, its like not washing a new t-shirt from the store before wearing it. You need to get the blades profiled for consistency between the skates, when new, mfg might not care that much for consistency, its like making sure the laces are even when u get the skates, u redo them. He is right about the ones where they take blade off the front like 9-10" radius which are terrible for moving sideways lateral. work on hip mobility and lower body legs. Adjust the top 2 eyelet lacing on the skates so u can flex forward and tilt the skate down on the ice. Anyways, single radius which is stock on skates on give single point of contact on ice along the curve,, A CAG give fulll force of blade distributed across flat giving more power on pushes-stops and edge control. someGoalies using CAG are Quick 60/120 and Kevin Weeks 85/165.

I agree with everything you are saying. I didn't know stores are pushing $40-$60 radius jobs. Don't buy into those. Use that standard 27-29 profile until you find something more specific you like. I agree I have trouble going laterally with so much off the toe. Hip mobility and leg strength and power are always essential. That CAG profiling sounds awesome. I will have to look into that. Anything that gives you more power on pushes and harder stops and edge control is something I would be incredibly interested in. Thank you for that insight it is very helpful.

Hey Hayden, I hope your offseason is going well! Did TRUE ever end up repairing the blade holders?

Hi Hayden, kinda unrelated but i was wondering do you get your one piece skates profiled? If so, what profile do you use and why?

Hey there. Thank you so much for the question. The simple answer is I essentially use the Step Steel stock profiling. TRUE uses Step Steel in their skates, and I just like to have them sharpened from there. I am not able to find what exact profiling this is. Goalie skates tend to come with about a 27 profile, so I am assuming this is around what it is. But the reason I do this is because I like to feel flatter in my skates when I move my weight to the balls of my feet. I don't like to feel locked into my toes, or forced too far forward onto my toes by the skate boot or my profiling. I also feel like my pushes are better with more steel available to push with.

Eyelets are horrible. Brand new skates on new 2 piece model. My laces were getting shredded and upon inspection I noticed the many imperfections on the brass inserts of the eyelets. I polished out one of the inserts with super fine 0000 steel wool and it was drastically improved. Not sure if the assembler was having a bad day? But the eyelets in general were a piss poor job. Within a couple of skates I even found one retaining/backing ring of eyelet pop off. This was at the toe cap. Backing of eyelet never secured properly and popped off on inside of skate. Not enough rivet/ eyelet to grab toe cap and skate side plate. I am just a beer league player and I realize many pro's use the True goal skates. There are many strengths of the skate, like the power transfer. But I think they need to work on some things. Eyelets are a huge weak point. Top edge near ankle is not very comfortable either. Sticking to my Pro custom Bauer. Gonna pick up a couple more pairs tomorrow. Probably grab Pro custom and Konekt 2 since they have been revised. Did not care for original fit on first edition. Thanks for your videos Hayden.

Hey there Anthony thank you so much for the comment. I have to agree with all you are saying, especially with the eyelets. The eyelets towards my toe cap in my skates have popped out, and for my goalie partner, the eyelets towards the top of his two-piece skates have popped out multiple times. He had them fixed, but the eyelets popped out anyway. They are a great skate but they do need to be improved. It's easier for NHLers to deal with this since if something happens to their skates, they have a few backup pairs anyways (must be nice :). Nice thing about Konekt 2's is that they don't have eyelets that can go bad. Another goalie I played with this season wore them and loves them. They look like a phenomenal skate as well, and the idea they came up with to eliminate having to tie your skates is awesome.

can you pop out the blade from the one piece skate?

Yes you can its just hard to do

JVerner is right you have to unscrew a screw in the heel of the blade holder to pop it out.

My player skates were too small when I first got them. Sent an email to True and they sent me a new pair. Then that pair didn't have enough space around my bunions and they paid to have them shipped backed and they did their voodoo and they came back much more comfortable. In my experience, True will make things right.

Thank you for your comment. I have experienced the same thing. They will work to make things right. I sent mine in and they fixed them for free. When the skates came back, they had missed a couple spots. I contacted them again letting them know, and they fixed them again for free. That is great they sent you a new pair and managed to fix the second set of skates they gave you. I had no idea they could do things like adjusting the boot to fit around bunions and other irregularities of the foot.

I’d say, at least with the older 1 pieces, the biggest concern was the durability of the holder which often cracked and chipped. Wonder if they addressed that with the newer model.

That's a great point. I have the newer model skates currently. The holder itself has chipped slightly on the toe, but the inside of the boot just above the holder has a big crack in it from a puck.
