Although the Tom Garth character was fictional, his combat experience was based on an actual pilot. Daniel Sheedy was assigned to VF-3 and flew as part of the fighter escort for VT-3. While attacking a Zero that was going after his wingman, Sheedy's aircraft was attacked by another Zero, leaving significant damage. Sheedy was able to disengage and return to the American fleet. Instead of landing on his assigned carrier, Yorktown, he attempted to land on the USS Hornet. Due to battle damage, his landing gear collapsed when attempting to land, but he did survive the crash. Sheedy would go on to receive the Navy Cross for his actions at Midway and would retire as a Commander in 1963.

I recently did a re-watch of the series and came to KZbin wanting to find more info about the real history. Very interesting facts here about Abe's real family. I appreciate Troy correcting the record on Simcoe here. The real John Graves Simcoe basically helped found Upper Canada, what would later become Ontario. He was a staunch abolitionist and did a lot of good things. I don't want to over sell it, because he also helped to uphold colonialism in other ways, but he wasn't the horror movie villain this show characterized him as. Some of the attributes the show gave to Major Hewlett, were actually true of Simcoe.

I want to believe Oswald acted alone but the fact that he lived in Moscow, was let back into the US/USSR let him go, went to Mexico City means someone/something was funding his activities.

What about A Rush to Judgement by Mark Lane, and the Lee Harvey Oswald " trial" from 1986? You have a lot of debunking to do. This one won't get you far.

It's my favorite movie. I've seen it a million times. I agree with you that the actors are great, but in my opinion you are underestimating Kevin Costner. He was THE man for the role. No one would have been so good. I will also mention Jim Garrison who was great as Earl Warren.

1:41:41 According to The Report Of The Warren Commission, The New York Times Edition (1964), Lee Harvey Oswald “scored an IQ of 118 on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children. According to [Irving] Sokolow, this indicated a “present intellectual functioning in the upper range of bright normal intelligence.” (Pg. 357)

Even when I was a conspiracy theorist, I always had this nagging problem of why, if the plan was to make Oswald the lone shooter patsy, would you risk using three snipers who could miss and hit others, proving a conspiracy?

The issue, bigger than weather L.H. Oswald was serious rifleman or not, is how he was allowed to be in that sixth floor window in first place? The presidential protection measures should have sealed all the windows, doors and manhole covers on that route where the motorcade drove through. Specially in the city where the inviroment was openly and violently hostile to president.
@9BallrАй бұрын
Logistically impossible.

@@9Ballr Yes. The protection measures of US president are huge, they've been that for a very long time. In texas, many things went wrong with that in a way that dosent make any sense.

That was not SOP in ‘63. They would become so after the assassination. And as far as Oswald’s proficiency with his rifle, practice makes perfect. Contrary to what the historian guy said, Oswald only missed General Walker by an inch.

I stopped watching the series at the begining of season three, but the relationship between Billy Bones and Captain Flint seemed to be going in the direction of the Stevenson book. In the book Treasure Island Stevenson says that Bones was Flint's caretaker in the final years of his life. If the reader wants he or she can read that Bones and Flint were a gay couple and Bones took care of Flint until his bitter end. Maybe its just the romantic in me, but the series establishes Flint as gay and Bones falling into thrall to him.

Great video. Just a few notes about who is who: Israel Hands is also a character in Treasure Island. Ben Gunn is too. Ned Lowe was an actual pirate. A 4th category could be historical representations as the Maroon Queen is based on Queen Nanny of the Jamaican Maroons. Eleanor and Richard Guthrie are loosely based on a Scottish merchant family in Nassau. Finally, the character of Julius was based on the slave revolt leader in the Bahamas, Caeser.

Gerald Ford hated JFK and even challenged Oliver Stone to a debate on it
@DavidArbuckle-sc8zcАй бұрын
Geezus, The media completely caved in on the notion that Oliver Stone and Jim Garrison were not credible. This Video is a perfect example. You cannot examine the forensic evidence, ballistic evidence, and witness testimony and not know there was a vast conspiracy and Cover-up. It is not Jim Garrison's fault that so many of the main players were gay in this story. But the numbers are stunning. David Ferrie, Clay Shaw, Jack Ruby, Larry Cawfard, possibly Ruth Paine, and even General Walker who was arrested TWICE For Solicitation in a men's bathroom. I think this is a testimony to how the CIA works. They love misfits. Gay misfits? Sure. Why not? Making fun of the obvious evidence of JFK's head jerking back to the left is the saddest part of this Conspiracy. That has been the one of the talking points of the single shooter nonsense. It wasn't just the head jerking back. IT was the bone, blood and brain splatter all over the back of the Limo and the front of the Secret Service Limo and the two patrol officers to the left of the JFK Limo.

The proof of the SBT is the elongated entrance wound next to Governor Connally’s right arm pit. It proves this wound was caused by the same bullet that traveled through JFK’s body, began tumbling, and entered Connally lengthwise. No other explanation is possible. The head-shot projectile exploded on impact with the skull & brain matter. This is clearly shown in Z313, where blood & brain material flies in all directions, especially, straight up.

there's probably some good info in here that would make a case challenging theories but unfortunately the guest speaker is more passionate about criticizing Oliver Stone and his movie making methods than communicating to the viewer what inconsistancies there are between actual evidence and known facts vs. the movie.

I’ve seen the Panther jet crash used in three different movies. This one where it represents a WWII airplane. In “The Hunt for Red October,” where it represents an F-14 crash. And in a Korean War movie in which it represents a Panther jet crash. I recently read that in the real crash the pilot survived.

A great appearance by Jon again on a show about The Battle of Midway. Shattered Sword is a great book. So is the newer book on Midway by Craig Symonds. I will be looking forward to the show on the 1976 movie on June 4. I think both the 1976 and 2019 have their strengths and weaknesses. For me, the 1976 one has much better actors and gives better background on the battle. The negative for it is the "personal" side stories and the use of incorrect film footage in it. The 2019 movie does a better job with depicting the correct aircraft even though many details on them are wrong. The biggest probable with it is the casting of the actors. Besides Yamaguchi, Layton, Nimitz and Halsey, none of the other characters are likeable. i also agree with Jon on the "Star Wars-afication" of the flight scenes. It is not how airplanes perform for the most part.
