@nathaniscool26, your video is one of the very best videos I've seen yet giving the details where to cut the fuel pump access hole in the bed of your truck, great job. I'm retired and you saved me from crawling under my truck to get measurements, thank you very much. Several years ago after dropping the fuel tank on a 88 GMC 4X4 pickup to replace the fuel pump, I said to myself that'll be the last time I replace the fuel pump the hard way, every truck that I've owned since then, including the 88 GMC 4X4, I've cut out a fuel pump access hole, with the two cross-cuts being down the center of the u-channel so I could use self starting screws to secure the cut-out section, I didn't bother to silicone around the cuts, being that I had a bed-liner that covered the hole area. I've also learned over the years you get what you pay for with the cheap Chinese in-tank fuel pumps, but I've also had a new AC Delco fuel pump, (88 GMC 4X4), and Delphi fuel pump, (90 Chevy single cab short-bed), to be bad from the get-go as well. I like the Delphi fuel pumps better than the AC Delco pumps, they seem to be built with better quality materials. Now I'm fixing to cut a hole to R&R the fuel pump on my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 WT 4-door extended cab w/6.5ft bed, I'm installing a Delphi fuel pump (that must be made out of gold going by the price these days), $250 bucks including the DC & state mafia's cut in taxes, and I darn sure wouldn't spend $406+ bucks for a AC Delco cheap looking fuel pump.

Smart idea about using the panel back on the chassis I've done this on a Ford Taurus I've done it on a Chrysler minivan and I used to have a 2002 GMC Sierra but not as clean as your job because I did not want to use grinder
@jasoncollins90812 ай бұрын
Yeah, those measurements won't work for a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ. I can see the fuel pump between the bed and the cab of the truck. I guess the vehicle manufacturers saw these videos and decided to make some changes, lol. Besides, I'd rather drive my truck onto four portable ramps to give myself plenty of ground height and drop the tank, and move it to a location that's safe to do all the work.

I want to buy my first outboard, the same Tohatsu model as yours, for using in my camper trips. I will create a box between my chassis bars to store it perpendicular on the driving direction. Do you think it is wise to do that? Would the lateral movements of the car affect anything? Also, what side should I lean on during transport? Left or right? And what angle shoud it be up from the engine head so I don't get oil leaks? Is the tiller easy detachable? I might need to do it every time because of limited space in the transport box. Thanks!

I have the opposite problem I have an old one that has metal cam gears and the metal motor but the cam gear teeth were ripped off. I'm guessing because the motor was trying to spin it but it is stuck. that valve is supposed to spin I assume? If I pull the cam gear off and turn it with a pair of pliers how hard should it be ? I don't want to break it LOLI have a new cam gear coming but it won't do any good if that thing is frozen.

Is your tohatsu a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? I have seen the installation calls for wrapping the coil instead of the wire for 4 strokes.
@techmap41914 ай бұрын
Hi so I had the exact same problem that you had and I replaced the motor and gear but when I started it up the motor bogged down and stopped as if it was turning. It was as though the rotor that it was turning was hard to turn. Does that sound about right? What should I do?
@deransanchez31623 ай бұрын
Same problem and then after trying to get the new cam gear off , I broke the rotor. I jb welded it back on just for testing . Tech support said I might be tighten the screws to the valve body to tight, but no matter how hard I tighten the 8 screws down ( Unless I leave it too loose to wear water sports everywhere) the thing just will not turn at all and I believe that was my original problem. I called Tech Support they said it could be because of the seals swelling , that seems a little far-fetched but now I have to buy a whole rotor and seal kit. $100 😢... did you ever figure yours out ?

Question please, i transport tohatsu 20hp on proper side, tiller down side, and second time oil been flooding cylinders and locking starter. Why is this happening? I mean road can be windy and different change in slope when riding my car, but its laying on proper side, by the time I come to fishing spot, theres ton of oil leaked out and motor doesn't start, so frustrating, i just bought this motor and already having issues. Any suggestions?

From owners of this motor people say that it does not start from first try due to EFI system. Is that the case with yours? How many pulls do you need to do to start it? Sounds like Outboards with carburetors were a lot more efficient at starting these outboards Tohatsu outboards? What is your experience? My 6hp tohatsu starts with 1 pull when properly primed

I just picked up my boat friday having it re-powered with a new Tohatsu MSF115A and took it out today. After 15-20 minutes I was headed back in with a grinding noise coming from the motor. Got it back up on my trailer and found the installer either put a wrong size propeller on and or didn't put the Thrust Washer on the shaft. The Propeller was grinding into the lower unit and both the propeller and lower unit housing are eaten up. I am more than pissed off to the point of the fact that the motor hasn't even been broke in and such stress was put on it that I'm thinking I'm going to demand they replace the motor with a new one or replace it with another dealer and take them to Court to get my money back for the motor and install. I'm just really uneasy about letting them fix the motor as much internal stress that the grinding sounded like it was causing the motor.

one thing I would worry about, is the use of copper 'non-seize' grease on the outboard. The outboard is mainly aluminum alloy, with zinc anodes. Copper grease would introduce another metallic element to the situation.... I think non-seize grease is a great idea, but I would be looking for a grease that is electrically non-conductive or at least neutral acting in the corrosion process. As I am no expert, I am not able to suggest a product, but there will be something out there.

Very helpful video. The Tohatsu owners manual does not discuss AT ALL how to replace the impeller?? not helpful. I feel confident now that I can replace it with your guideance. I would like to ask that you hold your camera back about a foot. I would have liked to see the entire lower unit and crankshaft. Also, hold it a little stiller would be helpful. That said, good job!
