Cali is expensive and severely regulated, and I'm wondering why Californian transplants allowed their home state to become such that they felt they had to leave for a better life.

Okay, here we go: I know a young couple who moved to one of the Carolinas from So Cal. They lasted less than a year and was able to move back. It just wasn't for them. I know an older couple that moved to Ohio from Orange County. They lasted about two years before they wanted to move back but by then, the housing market in So Cal out priced them. Then there's that couple that moved to Idaho from California and made a You Tube video about it. Luckily they were able to move back because Idaho just wasn't what they thought it would be. Something about green grass and a fence?

The biggest question I have is, how does a niche employee making a good salary just get a job paying the same if not more in a cheaper area
@ExcursionFamily2 ай бұрын
That is a great question! Honestly, I don't think all people can. If you work a remote job, that is definitely one way. Since we are entrepreneurs, making the move doesn't have a super negative impact financially. I think ultimately you have to get creative when it comes to moving to a place outside your normal network.

Hi again from retired Seattle guy originally from Santa Monica. Really enjoyed seeing your family enjoy such a beautiful beach and warm-water swimming. The Wilmington area was at the top of my relocation list, but I think it's just a little too hot and humid for me. Or maybe after thirty-three years in Seattle, I've just gotten used to a cooler climate. So happy for you guys!

These people had a great home, lived in a great city. Just unsatisfied people who didn't appreciate what they had in SD
@safeandeffectivelol2 ай бұрын
They needed a bigger home and SD was too expensive. What if they want more children? A 1300sf house for 5-6 people? The world doesn't revolve around SoCal and believe it or not, there are happy people living outside of California.

We understand your perspective and leaving San Diego was super tough. We aren't sure if NC is our forever home but we are enjoying the adventure. We try to work on be satisfied and grateful people but definitely can struggle with that at times. The truth is, often there isn't a perfect situation or solution, you just have to make decisions and see what happens.
@res_ipsa-REX2 ай бұрын
I wish you and your the family the best. Since you mentioned cost of living as a reason for the move, I am interested to see if your video business income is effected by the NC economy and how that matches up with the lower cost of living? Net profit? Evens out? A lot of videos on KZbin recently where people talk about only a small financial benefit (usually less than 10% net gain) after factoring in the lower income, increase in property taxes, etc. But there are for sure non-monetary benefits to moving for your family.
@ExcursionFamily2 ай бұрын
I think we are still a ways out from navigating the business side of things. I still have clients from CA and we have allowed ourselves to slow down for a while during the transition while we figure out which direction we want to push business wise.

1. How is this not the classic story of Americans thinking bigger is always better? 2. Zero chance that suburb you moved to is more diverse than San Diego.
@safeandeffectivelol2 ай бұрын
1. A tiny house for a family of 4 is plain stupid. They needed more room and SD was not affordable. They may even have more children. 2. San Diego is 5% black. Raleigh is 25% black. San Diego doesn't seem very diverse. It's more of a rich white people place with some homeless people downtown and by the beach.
@battle6192 ай бұрын
The setup is intended for Americans like them. Yet, they are still never satisfied.
@ExcursionFamily2 ай бұрын
I can see your sentiments. I do agree that American culture leans too far into bigger is better and consumerism. It was a hard decision but a good move for our family. There has been quite a bit of diversity where we moved and that has been encouraging.

REAL Californians dont leave cali. lots of red state people move here n cant make it. if dad was better at his career maybe he could provide for his family. the homeless population here in cali are NOT Californians. they are more red state people that move here to be homeless ( mostly VETERANS ) that were not treated well by the red state they came from. so when THESE people show up wherever they move to n say we LEFT cali the locals complain about "Californians" moving here n "ruining" their new state.. its these people. NOT Californians. lol

don't you just love all these "fleeing California" videos that omit the glaringly obvious truth: California's liberal state and city governments have wrecked the local economy and produce dangerous living conditions. everyone knows people are fleeing hell in California created by liberal administration #wokeCali
@garrisontaylor62175 ай бұрын
Ain't that the truth. People pretend to not see it. They refuse to acknowledge the real reason California is hemorrhaging its citizens. Because state government values criminals over law-abiding citizens. Woke agendas at every level of society. Education. City offices. Business administrations. Cali civilization is falling apart and becoming charity programs. A lot of insurance companies aren't insuring California anymore. Projects can't finish. Just read any investment report. Sound minds are leaving. Smart move, @ExcursionFamily

@@garrisontaylor6217 and look at the latest company to move its HQ operations out of California: Chevron (Aug 2024). big tech HQs left California years ago. if their executives can't reach agreements with Cali state administrators, the little man can't either. Cali community and neighborhood conditions can't safely produce and sustain families anymore. news flash: families are literally the employees who operate businesses. so when families can't safely reproduce and live in peace and prosperity, your business operations is in danger/jeopardy/risk. dealing with the legacy media the past 8 years, I lose a lot of respect for people who lie to me. this video comes awfully close to lying about the truth. but that's just my assessment.

A giant migration of Americans swept over California during the 1930s dust bowl. Why? Pumps. Pump technology was ripe in the 1930s which kept California agriculture fertile when many wonderful American farmland was flying through the air after being abused by early modern farm practices and nature. That the grandchildren and Great-grandchildren of the Dust Bowl refugees want to return to the rest of the USA should be applauded. California wishes you well. Here is the story for your children. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3PXkISMhsqrpKs
