Hey man what type of wood did you use? White pine? Also did you use 2x6/8/10 for your base in this video? Thanks brother, awesome video! I'll be using this guide in about a week and a half.
@CurtisMadeIt5 күн бұрын
@charismatic9467 Hey again C, *untreated* yellow pine. I'm in Texas, USA so you may have different lumber available, but you don't need anything super fancy or expensive...at least for your first floating bed frame build...let's learn how to build it first and then you can get the high dollar stuff if you want to 🤣. White/yellow pine is good, just make sure it is untreated. 2x6/8/10 for the base is going to depend on you...if you want storage under there(gonna put bins or something under there to store your Dallas Cowboys fan gear for 9 months out of the year like me), i'd recommend a 2x8 or 2x10 for the base. Keep in mind that that will make the deck of your mattress taller once your bed frame is done though. ...from your comment on the origional queen size floating bed frame video, you may not have a box spring so you wont be as sensative to the overall height of the bed frame once it is assembled. My deck is 30.75" off the ground and is a little bit tall for me, but i've gotten used to it. Sooner or later when i have some time, i'll modify it again...the fourth time...to make it sit a little bit lower so i don't become airborne every morning when i get up just trying to get out the bed. Cover the deck of your frame with a fitted sheet like i did in the full size video(awesome editing when i threw it and fitted it on there, should give you a good laugh) for an easy, cheap, quick cover for your frame. Let me know how else i can help, apologies for the length here.

@@CurtisMadeIt Hey man thanks for replying to both comments and helping me out. Ok yeah nice I'm going for as cheap as possible, just wasn't sure about wood type as I know nothing about it haha. Thanks to your reply I've decided I'm probably going to go with 2x6 for base, I still need to make some measurements though. You crack me up with going airborne every morning lmao. Also your idea about the plywood with drilled holes is genius. I was worried about the mattress getting air but that's the perfect solution. I'm pumped to build this, it will be my first woodworking project, my trade is in landscaping so I'm more at home amongst the bushes and mulch beds haha. Gives me an excuse to use the drill I bought last year and bother my Dad to use his saw haha. Thanks for all the help and congrats on all the views man you deserve it!

@charismatic9467 You bet. I don't have much free time any more because of my day job, customer builds, and other life obligations, but I do take the time when I have it to talk to the people that come by here and talk to me. It's a really wonderful blessing in my life. I feel like I'm doing something good and helping people's mental health in some capacity so I feel very blessed very often to be in this position. Sounds like you are developing more of plan which is good, you want to know all your steps before you even get started if you want everything to go smoothly. Airborne 🤣 haha, yeah for real...it's a little baby jump to get outta there in the morning. Plywood with holes was from another subscriber...yet another sub has suggested cedar fence pickets spaced slightly apart. I didn't even really know or consider the mattress being able to breathe being a thing until someone asked about not having a box spring and then someone recommended the plywood with holes. I'm glad this is your first woodworking project, this is a good one! You are gonna be thrilled when you get finished, I'm certain of it. This is going to be a big boost for you, I can feel it in my blood as I type this message. I'm excited for you. You are gonna do just fine. Let me know if you have any questions. @@CurtisMadeIt That's so awesome, must be cool to talk to so many different people all with the same goal in mind. Yet again, you saved me big time because if you didn't tell me to get untreated I wouldn't know that, I would have gotten pressure treated thinking that was better haha. Only other question I would bother you with at this point would be if you know what SPF lumber is. I was going to check out some local lumber yards but right now I just looked at my local Home Depot and they don't have any untreated pine, like you said earlier it's probably regional, I'm in the NE. It looks like Premium SPF is available in 2x6x10s and it's untreated, says it's like a blend or something, is that what I'm looking for?
@CurtisMadeIt5 күн бұрын
@charismatic9467 that SPF means Spruce/Pine/Fir. Those are three different types of softwood trees that are interchangeable for construction grade lumber. That untreated SPF is gonna be what you want for this project. Take the time to select boards that are as straight as possible…sometimes they get kinda wonky at HD and L’s home improvement stores. What else you got for me C?
@charismatic94676 күн бұрын
My only issue with this simple and awesome guide is that you need to put a box spring on this frame. Looking to make one of these you can just put the mattress on so it looks better. Maybe by following this and then putting a flat board over the top it would work?
@CurtisMadeIt5 күн бұрын
@charismatic9467 Hey C, thanks for your compliment. This was the first video i ever made for youtube and i got extraordinarily lucky that it turned out to be a banger. In the absence of a box spring, you can use either plywood with holes drilled in it or cedar fence pickets spaced slightly apart to support the mattress. The holes/spaces are to allow the mattress to breathe. I hope this helps and i encourage you to ask me any other questions you may have. I see you just left a comment on the king size floating bed frame video so i'm gonna reply to that one right now. I very much appreciate your time and support here on this channel my friend, i mean it, thank you 🤝

@CurtisMadeIt5 күн бұрын
@Fjord66 Yep, I did this in the Subscriber build video for Erin from California. Instead of making one large base box, i just built a smaller box and used some very legit mending braces to secure a foot board to the frame joists. This left the storage openings going to the sides instead of the feet. This was a first for me on so many levels but it turned out fantastic. i made a wonderful lifelong friend and i got to see Sequoia National Forrest(included quite a lot of this footage in that video posted here on youtube). Looking to build this for our bed frame!! What's the measurement from the base to the wall, we want to keep our pets from going behind there, do you remember off top of your head? We're going to close up underneath as well so they can't get under the bed as well.
@CurtisMadeIt5 күн бұрын
@briancampbell5127 Hey Bee-Rye, thanks for stopping by. I built this king size floating bed frame with the headboard modification so i could add it on later, which i ended up doing and making a video for that is posted here on this channel. If you arent adding a headboard, you don't need that extra five and a half inches at the head area. If you build it like this, the headboard of the base and the frame will be stacked on top on each other vertically and will be flush with the wall with no space for animals to get back there, hopefully eliminatiing your concern. 1x12's around the underside of the perimiter of the frame will keep em out of the base area as well. Does this help? Let me know what other questions you have and i'll be right there. Thanks for your time and support on this channel my friend, i mean it 🤝

@CurtisMadeItАй бұрын
@SW-pm3ls Apologies for the length...just now seeing your follow up messages. I see you've finished your build already but I'll still reply appropriately. I've since moved on to a more user friendly item to secure the base to the frame instead of the simpson strong ties. Those, quite obviously, still work just fine, but in the 'full' and 'twin' size floating bed frames, I went to 2" L-shaped corner brackets. They aren't much difference in price so you aren't missing much savings there...if you build another floating bed frame though, *definitely* switch to those brackets. Video for the king size headboard is posted on this channel, check it out and let me know what questions you have. The king size headboard doesn't have any storage to speak of, except for the floating shelves. The queen size style headboard *does* have some storage built in and that one can be retro-fitted for the king size. The king is pretty basic and the queen is a little more advanced, but if you take your time, you can make it happen. I just built that queen size(my personal bed frame) off the top of my head really, no plans or anything at all, just making cuts and coming up with something. For the storage, I'm not sure if you are talking about in the base area...if you are, you just leave the foot of the bed open and use that board that would have been at the foot straddled across the top of the joists in the base, set back ~2" from the end so that you have space for the last joist in the frame to straddle the end of the base there...I hope that makes sense. Then, I just purchased some oversized storage bins from amazon and I keep all my Dallas Cowboys fan gear in there for close to 9 months out of the year because we aren't ever gonna win another big one in my lifetime. I think I have those bins linked in...probably the Queen 3.0 build video...make sure and check the written descriptions of these videos on this channel too. I put more information in there for you guys. Again, apologies for the length here. I hope some of this helps.

Is it comfortable to just put a mattress straight onto those joists ? Surly it needs some kind of board over it or slats ?
@CurtisMadeIt2 ай бұрын
@rick17aa Hey, good morning Rick. You are right! You definitely need a box spring or some plywood with holes drilled in it or some cedar fence pickets cut down and slightly spaced out to support the mattress for any of the bed frames I've made videos for on this channel. I hope this helps. You have any other questions my friend? Thanks for stopping by and supporting this channel, I mean it 🤝

What would measurements be for an Alaskan Bed?
@CurtisMadeIt2 ай бұрын
@jessyk4074 Hey, good morning Jessy. I'd have to take the time to calculate the measurements for the frame of this Alaskan bed. What are the dimensions of your mattress? Feel free to contact me on instagram curtis_made_it and I'll be glad to help you get your new bed frame designed. I appreciate you stopping by and supporting this channel, we'll talk again soon 🤝

Hey man appreciate the video as a carpenter myself it’s nice not having to do the measurements myself 😂 the only thing I did different was I used 2x8 for my rim boards and 2x6 as my joists so I had an 1 1/2 for the bed to sit into
@CurtisMadeIt2 ай бұрын
@colehymers1571 Hey Cole, this is the way to do it! I've thought about modifying my queen size(again) to be similar to yours so that the deck of my mattress isn't so high, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I like the way you did yours though, that's how I'll do mine eventually. I appreciate you stopping by to support this channel and talk with me today. I hope you are sleeping well on your new bed frame my brother. Take care, we'll talk again down the road 🤝

How much was the wood and what led did you use?
@CurtisMadeIt2 ай бұрын
@Josh-c7i Hey Josh, the wood was pretty cheap, certainly less than $100, but you will still need screws, corner brackets, and the lights. The LED lights I used are linked in the written description of this video. That is an affiliate link, so, if you click on it and make a purchase, I'm gonna get a small commission from the total sale. This is one tiny very painless way you can help support this channel even further and of course, I'd very much appreciate it. Let me know what other questions you have. Thanks for supporting this channel my friend, I mean it 🤝

How much was the total price?
@CurtisMadeIt2 ай бұрын
@dariusphillips8442 Hey Darius, the cost to build this bed frame can vary pretty widely depending on how you want to do it, but as it is shown in this video, without the headboard, you should expect to get outta there for under $150(wood, screws, corner brackets, fitted sheet, and lights). I hope this helps and I hope you have a safe build. Thanks for stopping by and supporting this channel my friend, I mean it 🤝
