I was actually at that show way back when. I would often go to CBGBs to catch some of the acts '76-'79. Being a Brooklyn musician and photographer, many of my friends were performing the circuit Max's, Mudd Club & CBGBs. That evening, singer Genya Ravan on a mic happened to be interviewing the Dead Boys stage side prior to their performance. They were an exciting band as their antics were decidedly unique. Damn, so long ago, but fresh in my mind.

I see they were subjected to the typical “too cool to move” NYC crowd.

the most interesting of the bands I saw there was Suicide, just two guys, a 'singer' alan vegas and marty rev on elec keys--incredible to see, almost scary--and then a couple hours later I bought alan a beer and we talked about the double play last night in the Mets game, like he was just another guy, which he really was actually, although he had a 'different' kind of musical offering
@richierugs6544Ай бұрын
i saw them there and Stiv somehow got the mic around the lights then the cord around his neck and started to hang himself--his face first turned red and then just ghostly turned a whiter shade of pale until a roadie or somebody lifted him up and undid it--i made a cassette of the show and every once in a while I'd hear my mother go ---deeeeaaaddd boooyyyysss---she thought it was quite amusing

This was shot for 60 Minutes and it was my first exposure to punk rock. I was 9 and my whole family was sitting around the TV set, which is what we did every Sunday in the 70. At that time my brain was filled with Universal monsters and Star Wars and I thought this was the coolest thing I ever saw. My sister was in HS and she said she had one of them in her class and that he was weird. Despite not getting any records until around ‘80 I knew this music was for me. If I recall the episode just had a few clips and an interview with Mike Wallace and this raw footage of the whole show was put out on DVD a number of years ago.
