But I never continued until I found you here in this video. You inspired me to pick up my slide and just focus on slide so I can play more blues. Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🎸🎸

How did you decide on Bloomfield vs classic reverb signature? I’m considering one or the other
@julesleyhe
@julesleyhe 17 күн бұрын
Great question! I managed to get lucky, someone got rid of their Bloomfield for a pretty good price so I went for it. I was really just keeping my eye open for anything two rock and so once this Bloomfield was offered I went for it and haven’t looked back. I’ve loved each two rock I’ve played though, they’re really amazing amps… definitely pricey but definitely amazing!

Thank you so much man, I really appreciate that! I’ve definitely played with glass, brass, metal, clay slides… while they all offer different things I tend to play with glass the most, I’m actually starting to work on a signature slide with a company I really love now so hopefully soon I will have a signature slide to offer so that everyone can have the same experience with the actual slide that I love to have!

Thank you Mark! I also do use my fingernails on my right hand, they’re usually pretty short but long enough so that I’m using a lot of nail and a fair amount of flesh as well… also my touch is one thing but it’s all completely embellished by my foot riding the volume pedal a lot of the time!

At 11:15 when you discuss sliding down and the relative difficulty to sliding up. For me, I know why sliding down is more difficult at first: I cannot see the destination fret clearly, especially in the region of the 12th fret, because the other fingers obscure it. When sliding up, I have a clear view of the destination and can coordinate eyes and hand. No such immediate advantage when reversing that move.

Jules, at 11:40, that B on the 12th fret. When I pluck that B it sounds like a guitar. When you do it, it sounds like a theramin. Can you talk about how you do that, either here or in a dedicated video to this ethereal effect? ❤

The drill that starts at 3:09 is one I do every day now for 3 months. It has a lot to give, including, at least for me, an awareness of a light touch on the strings. If I drill this for 3 minutes and I allow any finger to press too much on its string, a depression or notch begins to develop in the finger. This notch does two things: 1) makes it harder to move because the finger gets hung up, and 2) it makes the picking surface wider because more finger is touching the string. More finger touching at the moment of release means the highs are damped before the finger lifts up and gets out of the way of the string vibration. So my success criteria has become: if there are significant notches in my fingers after 3 minutes, go back and focus on a lighter touch.

You have some convincing JB chops Jules. I really appreciated the bit where you talk about him emulating a harmonica player. I hadn;t thought of that, but it's spot on. I have always been aware of Jeff Beck, but I recently watched the video clip of him playing Cause we ended as lovers with Tal & Vinnnie and it totally blew my mind. You really have to watch him to fully appreciate his gift. BTW, what amp/model are you plugged into?

At 35:14 during that 7 10 12: you pluck only once but you manage to extract so much out of the energy in the string without plucking again. Even at the end of the lick there is still enough energy in the string to keep going. How do you do that?
@julesleyhe
@julesleyhe Ай бұрын
Great question, Mark! That’s really just about having enough gain on the amp/ tone to begin with so that there’s enough “life” in each note that even a fairly cleanly picked note has a lot of play just like you see in the video! 😊
