Neil's guitar improv here on "Down by the River" takes me to what it feels (and thinks like) to get out there to the point where it's not so much dangerous playing-wise, but Transcendent. The shred zone. That's where Neil Young and the Crew went in this performance of this Rock N Roll classic.

The drummer is killing it. Ben Keith was still alive. He contributed so much to the the records that he played on. He is so much the sound of Harvest.

When we went to way out west in Gothenburg to see our house God Neil someone in the band tragically was injured in the band think it was the guitarrist so they cancelled the show just before we came there. Real real disappointment. Why could not Neil going up there acoustic with his guitarr, it has bothered me fo about fifteen years now. NY is not our housegod anymore ...

I was 20yrs old when I went to this gig. My mate and I drove up from Hastings, and we stood perhaps 10 people or so from the front-right of the stage. My mate only knew Neil Young because of Rockin' In The Free World, but he was blown away by the set. It was a particularly great one that night, including a semi-impromptu Old Man, and A Day In The Life where Paul McCartney joined on stage. But there's something ethereal about this edition. The crowd during the chorus were LOUD. Glad it comes across here. I think this is his best version of this song, perhaps in his entire career. We only had a day ticket, though. Springsteen was on the Sunday. But we had such a good time, we abandoned the car for the night (thankfully, I didn't get a parking ticket!), and we stayed up all night to wait for Springsteen on Sunday. We watched from a bunch of crates, trash, and boxes people had set up outside of the concert area. Magical. God, I miss those days.

Oh my! Didn't get to see Neil n those boys. But, I saw the Grateful Dead 14 times before Jerry got promoted. Anyway, I'm rambling on. Such good times didn't matter that we didn't sleep and half ass ate anything. That doesn't mean we weren't ingesting. Lol Peace, love, and hugs from your sister in Tennessee!!❤

There's an indy artist in Connecticut I just discovered that's doing a new Neil Young solo tribute show and it's absolutely amazing how much he sounds like Neil, even on his own original music. I've never heard anyone whose voice is this close to Neil's. Here's his cover of a medley of "The Loner, Cinnamon Girl, and Down by the River" from the full show performance ("The Loner: The Music of Neil Young") at a small club in Bridgeport, CT recently. See what you think. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXzOpZmCYrmbgdEsi=x43_vsPXxFOK-QqY

I saw him in 70 Harvest Tout! Fun fact! His opening act was Lynard Skynard! I saw LS 3 more times before the airplane crash. What a show? Almost 3 hours. Was in Dayton, Ohio, they rolled up the streets at midnight back then!
