Animal sounds are so pleasant because these creatures are so pure, and that is why we humans feel relaxed by their sounds.

Thanks Richard. Yes it's a nice lens; it's actually on long-term loan from a friend but if/when they ask for it back I might buy my own copy. I'm going to do a video review of it later this year. Mind you I still wish Canon made a 200-600 type lens at the same price point as Nikon/Sony.

More informative insight into this region’s varied winter birding and stunning early morning river views up river of Yakumo. Clearly the one-eyed Steller’s can see well enough to seek out prey thought surely a Kittiwake meal less nutritious than a salmon! No need to apologise for the picture quality when using the 2x converter - looked pretty sharp on my big screen TV.

Lovely, lovely shots friend! These are incredibly beautiful! I love the variety of birds that are so unique and quite different from the birds I see around me. Loved all the amazing captures full to 6.9 min! My favorite was that amazing blue turquoise one around 2:06. Hope you are having a lovely day and are not too cold today like you were last time I visited! lol😊

Wow, what cool birds. Fantastic shots of all these birds. You had an awesome luck still in the snow. So very cold for you to do this shoot. You said not a great morning, but dang those are some incredible shots still. I know the lighting and cold must have been brutal, but I think you got some very special shots. Especially that grebe that struggled to swallow the flat fish. That was a priceless shot! I am getting such a great lesson about various birds and their names from you. It is a delight to hang and learn so very much. I can’t believe all these birds variety you captured. Amazing. Enjoyed full 11 months with you! Loved your video. Fantastic job!

11 mins of birding magic bringing to life the wide range of winter birding in the Hakodate environs. Excellent mix of video and stills with informative captions (camera settings) info and voice commentary. New highlights for me included the displaying Mergansers and the final beach scenery.

@@hakodatebirding I was wondering what kind of boots / shoes you wear? As you know I will be venturing up there at the end of Feb...haven't been anywhere cold literally forever. Don't even own any appropriate clothes. I don't want to buy a new wardrobe just for a weekend trip. I realise I'll need to get some kind of cold, waterproof footwear snowboot kind of deal. I have some hoodies and a coat..which I can match with extra layers...in terms of trousers...what do you usually wear? Sorry for the silly questions but it's been that long since I've been anywhere really cold...was in London last winter and it was 10 degrees so not really comparable! Any advice would be great mate. Cheers
@hakodatebirding12 күн бұрын
@@RichardCookphotography Hi Richard; it'll probably be well below zero at the end of Feb; not sure if those clothes are going to cut it. I usually wear heat-tech thermals from Uniqlo, lined pants from Uniqlo, fleece top and down jacket plus 2 pairs of socks and insulated winter boots. You can get decent thermals/lined pants/down jackets that fit western middle-aged men (ahem) from Uniqlo and also shops like Prono, Workman Plus etc. The latter shops usually have XXL boots that fit a japanese size 28 or 29. You can message me on facebook for more detailed info if you need.
