I bought this atlas, but its a bit weird. It calls the entire land of Israel "Palestine" throughout the entire book/timeline. I'm going to look for a better bible atlas.
@revchadbrooks5 сағат бұрын
Palestine is the normal description to describe the geographic area of modern-day Israel, Palestine, parts of Jordan, and southern Syria. The name first entered the historical record during the 5th century BC. In Roman times, it was referred to as Palaistine. For the last 2,500 years, there have been multiple kingdoms, provinces, countries, and other regions which have occupied this land mass. It's cleaner than mentioning what one group called an area during a short period. A true geography of the Bible will encompass multiple modern current nations and kingdoms. Geographically (and historically) Palestine is the accepted (and most accurate) description. It has nothing to do with 21st-century geo-politics. It's a solid atlas.

I gotta kick out of you saying you were indifferent to Proverbs! I felt like Proverbs was the most read book of the Old Testament in my upbringing! Everyday before school my mom made me read a chapter. 😂
@revchadbrooks9 сағат бұрын
🤣Yeah. I knew that would get some comments out there. I guess I don't have some deep personal connection to it yet? I do have that with other books. But, at least have the feeling it will happen one day.

I'm really looking forward to your video on the zettlekasten (sp?). I have several Bibles I've marked up that I need a good way to organize.
@revchadbrooks14 сағат бұрын
The video on my indexing system should be next...it's zetttlekasten-lite. No alpha-numeric indexing system is part of it. But it is a good way to quickly work through the back of my Wide-Margins. I'm hoping to do some full Zettlekasten content later in 2025. It is an amazing research system. You could incorporate whole Bible stuff into it really easily.

Where are you finding these hardbacks. The only one I see out there is the NIV. I like reading multiple translations but do not see anything in (hardback) for NKJV, NASB, or ESV.
@revchadbrooks14 сағат бұрын
ESV has been discontinued. Cambridge used to make an NASB hardback, but it is discontinued as well. The only one currently available is the NIV.

I found your channel when I was searching for videos about leaving the ESV for a new translation since the gendered language choices in the ESV translation bothered me and I've been watching some of your other content now. I loved watching this one! I think it looks amazing, so much better than the original cover. I took the lazy way with my parallel bible (hideous, shiny brown cover) and just covered it with sticker paper 😄 (basically like you did with individual stickers, I did with a couple sheets of sticker paper). I'm very excited to see how you're going to save all your categorizations from the back of your bible!

Got the New Testament as a present when I finished seminary. Started buying up used copies of the OT set once I got into the local church and slowly grabbed one or two a month. That is the significantly cheaper way.

Elizabeth Elliot use to read to us from a little palm sized notebook/binder. She would tell us that she collected wisdom. It was her wisdom collection. Yes, I'm old enough to have "sat at her feet" many times at one of her lectures. I have many of the quotes that were precious to Mrs Elliot in my little notebook titled, "Wisdom Collection".
@revchadbrooks10 күн бұрын
First, I was AMAZED to have someone who knew Elizabeth Elliot commenting. That is so awesome. In seminary I became friends with someone who worked with Corrie Ten Boom for years and it was a treasure to hear stories from her about Corrie. Jealous!!! Second, I remember reading about her little binder this past year in Collin Hansons theological biography of Tim Keller. I think keeping these little notes, journals, and record of learning and thinking to be terribly important to the Christian life. So glad you shared this story!

@revchadbrooks10 күн бұрын
@@heathermercer7166 Back when the whole turkey buzzard thing kicked off I decided to make some stickers. It is a bit tongue-in-cheek with folks trying to do serious bible study with a not-serious looking Bible. I finally did the work to make it easier getting them to folks. The phrase comes from hot-rod/car culture when people made junky or undesirable cars to be high-performance.

Embrace the imperfections. There is beauty in them. Cool idea! I've been pondering a similar idea. I leather rebound a small NRSV last year. There's flaws but ya know what, it works. I may jump into a hardback. I recently got a nice compact NRSV with apocrypha "go anywhere" and gosh I dislike the cover. So perhaps... a hard back rebind. See if I can match the RSV Catholic Edition compact I have which I love the size and feel of. Thanks always for the inspiration! Happy 2025 brother! Looking forward to the new Jerusalem video!
