Thanks for a very informative video. I'm wondering if as you are filing are the sides of the file also filing away the blade stop bolts. I'm thinking that would create issues for the plunge lines?

Does the Hada technique make the steel stronger?
@Tonycrow68Күн бұрын
@garyethridge3431 no, it just makes a bunch of small pieces in a large piece. Strength comes with the heat treat and temper.

I do mine the same way. I use hose clamps to hold the file to the bar and carpenters string chalk on the file, helps to eliminate fillings getting stuck in the file.

I was shocked at how dark my damascus hunter went from just 1 hour in a strong coffee mix. I bought a full jar of Nescafe standard (mild roast) and just filled it with hot water not expecting anything at all. It came out super dark. I have a video of it on my channel.

When you mix the bees wax and mineral oil, do you heat it up? What do you use, like a pot? Where do you get your tins?
@Tonycrow6829 күн бұрын
@HarrisCustomCreations I put the beeswax and mineral oil in my tin, melt it in the oven on the lowest setting on a cookie sheet. Take it out, stir and let cool.

Astounding work sir! I'm myself working on my first knife right now and it's a bread knife too. I'm waiting for the epoxy to cure and will be grinding the serrations pretty soon. I've seen Gentry Custom Knives do a serrations tutorial and he makes a good point in doing them pretty much at the end (after hand sanding at least). Your own bread knife has given me ideas for another one: 1095, coffee etch, then serrations as highlights. I think that could look good!

Good info! I used to use a piece of wood for a hand sanding rest. I recently welded together two 1 1/4” , 12” lengths of angle iron and cut it so it is pointed on one end. I glued a thin piece of rubber mat on top.
