As a rebuttal, I would like to point out that the Bible never specifically condemns abortion. Indeed, in Numbers 5:11-31, the Lord seems to condone giving a woman "bitter water" to miscarry if a woman has been unfaithful. Moreover, in Exodus 21:22-25, if a fight between two people results in a miscarriage, the fine is only monetary, whereas if there is "serious injury" to the woman, the punishment is much worse. (newer translations of the Bible seem to exclude the 'miscarriage' part.) It's interesting to dive into the history of *why* evangelicals place abortion above nearly every other political issue these days. It dates back not too long ago, the 1970s. Incredibly, as late as the 1960s and early 70s, evangelicals welcomed open debates about the morality of abortion. In fact, in the 1971 and 1974, the Southern Baptist Convention favored opening access to abortion for women. But in 1979, conservative Paul Weyrich identified abortion as a wedge issue to mobilize fellow conservatives politically. This led to the 'Moral Majority,' and the rest is history. 45 years later, you have Lance McDaniel on the stage calling for a spiritual revival to address an issue that, throughout much of the past 2,000 years, has not seen as such a make-or-break issue.

gloriaa, I would suggest you do a bit more digging when it comes to your rebuttal. There are major interpretation issues with both of your supporting passages. Numbers 5:11-31 could very well be saying that God would make a woman infertile if she cheated on her husband instead of saying that God would cause her to miscarry. Some ancient Jewish documents even suggest that this trial was forbidden to be done on pregnant women. Here is a good place to start with fleshing out this passage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqHUnWd7bp6mhLc Exodus 21:22-25 has also been translated various ways over the years. It could just as easily read that if a man causes a woman to give birth prematurely that the man would just be fined if the woman and child lives. Yet if the woman or child are killed that the combative man would be put to death. Here is more on that topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGLFk3WXYqmGsKs As to the Southern Baptist, it is true that they had many different discussions on abortion over the years especially around the time of Roe v. Wade. However, it would not be fair to paint them as overly excited about supporting abortion. Most of the discussions centered around the topic "should there be any valid reasons for abortion?" Also, we have to be careful to not paint the Southern Baptist convention as representative of all Christianity over thousands of years. The church as a whole has been pro life since the beginning. Here is some info on that: dailycitizen.focusonthefamily.com/no-politico-christians-should-not-reconsider-the-idea-that-life-begins-at-conception-2/ One thing is for sure if you want to get on God's bad side, do your best to support the murder of the innocent. This killing of children is the very thing that God had civilization after civilization wiped out for in the Bible. It was also the main reason listed that God allowed Israel to go into captivity. He did not spare his own chosen people when it came to their adoption of child sacrifice. Read through this article, and see how God condemned and responded to the murder of children throughout the Bible: americanvision.org/21369/ancient-child-sacrifice-the-legacy-of-modern-abortion/ Honestly, I believe that those who embrace the murder of the innocent don't understand the heart of God. Take a look at how God describes those intent on causing death: But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death. --- Proverbs 8:36 As a side note, the reason many modern evangelicals make abortion the primary political issue is just a matter of logic. What other right matters if you can't make it out of the womb alive? I mean if you had to choose one of the below options what would you pick? 1)You can say anything you want, but I am going to kill you. (freedom of speech) 2)You can write anything you want, but I am going to kill you. (freedom of speech) 3)You can pray anywhere you want, but I am going to kill you. (freedom of religion) 4)You can purchase anything you want, but I am going to kill you. (freedom of commerce) 5)You can hunt anywhere you want, but I am going to kill you. (freedom of the pursuit of happiness, freedom to possess arms) 6)I am going to let you live. (the right to life) I mean it really is not rocket science that the right to life is the most important of all freedoms. Without it, you can't even begin to discuss the others. Also to look at this spiritually, I would suggest you delve into the topic of the "weightier matters of the law" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2rIn5ennpemlac I know I have presented alot of information here, but this is a very serious topic that deserves a deep dive into the information. Also if we hold any opinion, we need to be able to justify that opinion Biblically as Paul told the Bereans. I pray that you take the time to truly dive into this information, and see if your believe can hold up under true scrutiny of the text, history, etc. God bless.

Thank you for preaching the truth of the sin in this world and also the truth of the redeeming power of Jesus available to all who come to Him. He forgives and saves. There is no greater love than this.
