Plan on heading to Vietnam next year. Looking forward to meeting the lovely person I am currently talking to. Her English is good but I want to learn Vietnamese. I find it difficult but am grateful for this channel and many others who are teaching it. Who knows. I might end up getting together with her or someone else in Vietnam. Either way I was planning on vacationing there. I am interested in the culture and seeing the way of life. I have heard many pros about Vietnam. Yes there are downsides but that's everywhere. Can't wait to go.

I have been in Vietnam several times, I have no problem at all, a lot of people speak Cantonese. Hotel , shopping center, restaurants a lot of people speak Cantonese.

I'm doing a Contiki in six months and I really want to have a conversational knowledge of Vietnamese before I come. Another thing, do the people of Vietnam happen to know French as well as a result of colonisation? Being Australian, I try to be sensitive to how colonisation works so I don't want to step on any toes. I speak conversational French so I'm just wondering if my Vietnamese fails that maybe I can speak French instead? Thank you or cám ón!
