Congratulations!! It’s such a great feeling widen paying off a vehicle. We did a similar approach with our house payments. Paid our mortgage off 10 yrs sooner and we were really proud of that.

Congrats! I had a paid off car but decided to upgrade to an SUV. I traded my car in and have a car payment again. I plan to pay it off quick like you guys did and will not be paying just minimums. Are there any SUVs you love or would wanna look at? Also, I do already own a home but they say if you are planning to buy a home don’t have a car loan since it drops your loan approval amounts.

As someone in their 40s, I wish I could go back and max out my 401k and Roth IRAs in my 20s instead of obsessing over buying a house immediately. Everyone in my age group bought houses right away because of the recession, first time home buyers credit, high inventory of foreclosures. Just assume something will break and you need $10,000 in savings to fix it when you do buy your house. Congrats on paying off your truck! We will be buying a new to us car in the next year and I am dreading the process.

We bought a new to us car a mth ago. I was dead set on not financing and it felt so good to just pay cash.

My credit union has a car concierge. When my VW died in August, my husband and I went to the credit union first to see what kind of loan we could get. (We could have asked for more, but I had a firm amount I wanted to borrow in mind) Got the loan secured and I was introduced to the concierge. I told him what I wanted, my out the door price, and by the time I got home (hour drive) he had three contenders. The one I liked most was down in Port St. Lucie, three hours away. I asked if we could close the deal 3 days later, ends up they had a buyer. So now I had a better idea, went from wanting Honda HR-V to specifically the HR-V Sport. Concierge went back to searching, found my dream color but the dealer wasn't willing to budge on price ($2k over my max). The second morning of the search, he found an HR-V Sport in Tampa, they agreed to my out the door price. First email from Larry was at 10am, by noon the car was mine. Left work at 2pm to beat the I-4 slog to get back to Lakeland, pick up my husband, then get over to Tampa. We got to the dealer at 5. We each test drove it, paperwork was READY for us, all we had to do was sign. Business manager asked what interest rate we had and confessed there was no way he'd be able to touch it. Even with the test drives, we were out of the dealership at 6:45. Ended up with a 2020 with only 10,500 miles on it. If you are members of a credit union, when you go to buy your next car, see if they offer concierge services and USE THEM.
