As as American of Scottish heritage, and as a military brat, my heart swells with pride watching these fine young men and women perform. I have watched this video so many times.

Breathe through the nose, never mind the shrunken chin straps.
@woodrowelmore25218 жыл бұрын
they are not chin straps. The Household Cavalry wear their headgear the same way. It has something to do with helping to relieve the force of a sabre or other weapon to the face.
@kaptinkarlsburg8 жыл бұрын
Woodrow Elmore To correct you, those are, indeed, chin straps. However, the members of the Regimental Band & Pipes are exempted from wearing it on their chin, by the orders of The Citadel's Commandant of the Corps of Cadets. I do like your idea of it, though.

They are not Confederate, they are Americans. They fired on the "Star of the West" which was a Union ship. I was born in Georgia and attended The Citadel and if you called me Confederate instead of American, you and I would have a major problem. God Bless America!

The straps on the shako are usually placed underneath the chin for the rest of the Corps. However, the Commandant of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets gave the Regimental Band permission to wear it up to their noses so it couldn't hinder their performance when playing their instruments.
@djbadlt12 жыл бұрын
its the best way to have uniformity when you wear a Shako

Fantastic. Real US exuberance . I didnt even know they had pipe bands. The straps under the noses is a strange one though.

Absolutely outstanding! In this acclaimed and highly-selective international event, they brought great credit not only to The Citadel, but to South Carolina and our Nation, as well. "Great Job" to the Regimental Band, the support staff behind the scenes, to one-and-all. We're proud of you. "Go Dawgs!" Class of 1970
