Jamie's honesty and self-awareness here is quite inspiring, this is a pleasure to watch. Recently I've been listening to his 'POD' with Spencer and while I do like Spencer's style as he's a very funny posh sort of chap he also comes out with '14 year old's insults' when putting Jamie down. It's jesting ofc and put on as they appear to be the very best of close friends but even so to hear someone say 'you're a dick' can still hurt. And you can see the stress of it in Jamie's face (in some of the vid highlight trailers). I do wonder about that because at my work there's lots of banter and sometimes it completely goes in one ear and out the other but then on some other days it can really rattle you. But then at a different time you find yourself using the same sort of insults and abusive banter at other people while you think nothing of it - yet receiving that is what causes you pain, so it's a real conundrum. For some reason there is a lot of anger inside us men, it comes from the playground a lot of it I think. We belittle, bully and prod each other as children then spend the rest of our adult lives trying to prove we aren't insignificant and worthless as we have been told, we are important. Putting on the 'real man' front is part of that process of proving the kids at school were wrong. But does it work or does the self-doubt haunt us forever? But so why does the grown-up banter continue? It's a release for sure, it's funny. Maybe we just need to learn to accept it as banter, Spencer is truly hilarious at times with it. Or maybe banter with a 'you're a dick' subtext is damaging? Or maybe a little bit is alright to keep our egos in check? Answers on a postcard.
