Thank you! I'm in love with this configuration. I set it up a few times in the garden to get the hang of it, then wild camped on the North Yorkshire moors in heavy rain and moderate wind - my girlfriend and I were cosy in our tarp palace all night. This is going to be my 'go to' from now on!

Almost all these pitches can easily be used without a pole by suspending it with guylines, it's even bigger inside without a pole in the middle ;)

This is THE video that convinced me to ditch my tent and start tarp caming. A tarp, a bugnet + a groundsheet or a bugbivvy and you got a polymorph hyper versatile tent sytem... But it need to be practiced. The main drawback of tarp camping with closed shelters is condensation, don't forget to raise your pitch if the weather is not too awful ;)

you want a hammock if you can possibly arrange it. It can be hung from ONE point of support, as a "slingchair" with you sleeping in the reclining position. The ground is often wet, or it will get that way. . It's very easy, turning in your sleep to get your clothing/sleeping bag off of a sleeping pad, onto the wetness and be soaked-thru before you notice it. Avoid down clothing or sleeping bags unless you KNOW it will be too cold for moisture to be an issue. Remove all snow from around your sleeping bag. If you roll onto the snow, off of the sleeping pad, your body heat will melt the snow, ie, wet sleeping bag.

Thank you - I was looking for good configurations for a small 2.8m x 1.5m tarp for strong wind, and your video did exactly that! Very useful.

Works with a 3x4 meter tarp as long as it has center tie outs along the 4 meter dimension. I recently bought a tarp on Temu for this purpose, and it works well. Incredible bargain too. The brand is SHOMORII Camping.

@papahiker could you do this configeration with the DD superlight to demonstrate it? Do you also know any more stealthier setups that allow room?Thank you.

Wrong kind of wood for plank plank was made wrong too you never use any sawn wood only cleaned with an ax or adz. The thickness and dimensions are for Properly shaped oak for everything except oars, mast, and spars are pine or spruce. A bunch of knots in rudder is bad that's why we Vikings use material from trunk for rudder

Also a pop up mesh/bug bivy is good and easy to throw under the tarp after you pitch it

reason 4 - the hiking pole will collect water inside if it rains, making a mess and taking a while to get fully dry.

In the trapezoid pyramid, (and many others) wouldn't those tucked folds gather rain and deposit the water inside your perimeter?

This may be your best all-purpose pitch! As you say, it's a better Modified A-Frame. One or both ends open when not expecting heavy weather. Could this be done with a 3x4 tarp (instead of 3x5)?

Solid fuel tablets are convenient & always work once you learn to get the fuel tab close to the bottom of the pot & have a windscreen. Thank you for sharing 👍

Nothing will ever convince me to switch to tarps. Douse it have a bathtub ground sheet? no. Is it double skin ?no. Douse have zip to leave when I want to pee in the middle of the night? No . Is it easy to set up and take down in the rain ? No. Can I set it up without tracking poles that don't carry or use ? No I just don't care about that extra kg it's worth every gram .

A long packraft such as the Sigma TXL or Omega with the Anfibio multimat inside could also work without flipping. Just needs some rain cover. The nice benefit with flipping the raft is that you have a lot of space underneath to hide your gear.

I have the Lifesystems free standing Geonet and have to tarps, one is 3 x 3m and the other the DD 4 x 4m tarp. For summer now I can be near water ways and swampy areas and not get bitten to death by Mosquitos Yippee. Added to this I have the Nitecore EMR 10 Mosquito repeller! Great video Papa, Liked and Subscribed

@papahiker9041 I built one of these, kzbin.infoPP0QGj6uKP4?feature=share I made mine with a 3 lb bean can and use nesting 0.9L and 0.75L nesting cups and I love how well it nests in my edc bag. I use it for cooking lunch and plan to carry it when hunting and fishing and camping if I'm not carrying my bigger Biolite stove and grill. I had hoped this would be a good alternative to a Kelley kettle and in some ways it is, I can cook in it without having to carry extra pots, because it nests with my water bottle it's very size efficient compared to the Kelley kettle. it is very good in windy conditions like the KK, and I think it's probably a lighter system all together depending on what I'm using to store my water in. Also, I have the freedom to swap out my water bottle from a very light weight 1.5 L smart style water bottle for large capacity, or a 1 L insulated bottle for carrying hot or cold beverages. my question is, I had hoped it would be close to the KK in terms of time to boil for small quantities of water and it seems that base on the videos I've seen of the KK, mine is much slower. I don't know if it's a factor of my draught/chimney/intake size ratio, or that I'm using such a large bottomed pot that most of the heat is being wasted on the side walls when I'm just doing enough water for my coffee or something else. I have noticed that with my intake being a bit off the floor there's not good airflow at the bottom of my stove and I don't get good burn down there, I've added some holes below my intake to try to help with that but haven't had a lot of time to test that fix since then. please take a look at my short and let me know if you think I'm missing something on my design. I think in that video, I'm using it as a double boiler with the nested cups to keep from scorching the leftover dinner I'm warming up. thanks again for this good design. I'm looking forward to figuring out where I can optimize it better.
