If anyone is interested, I put together a short slide show of some pictures I have as a student of Shugoro Nakazato. It's on my ham radio KZbin channel, under my callsign "K7JBL." These were taken back in 1974, 75 and 76. It will be interesting to see if anyone I knew while I was there spots them. 🙂

Wow, fantastic. Very similar to what Seikichi Odo's lineage does. Videos like this give everyone another peak into how the movements might be used. Thank you for posting!

I enjoy seeing this because I know the history of the katas introduced to Okinawa by Higaonna O Sensei. Amazing 🙏🏽
@teovu555710 ай бұрын
This video has nothing to do with higaonna of naha te and not related to Goju history. Lol The title is also misleading as it isnt a ming he quan form nor even Chinese person.....it is literally a video from Wakayama dojo Japan doing old style uechi ryu of kanbun Uechi before kanei uechi karatefied the katas. Lol Same form you can search on you as "Wakayama uechi forms'.

Kata kata kata is of 0 value unless the practitioner understands the practical application of each and every technique and that kata is merely a foundation and that the moves are purely offensive and can only work if what comes before is known.

Reply This video, ”Seisan 十三 拳form of Fujian He Quan (Crane boxing),” thoughtfully posted by Cezar Borkowski, raises a number of tantalizing questions. Though it resembles the Seisan that is practiced in Wakayama, my opinion is that it was filmed in China. More importantly, it conceivably makes the missing link between Uechi Kanbun and where and with whom he studied in Fuzhou, China. It is believed by many that Uechi studied under Shushiwa (周子和/Zhou Zihe in Mandarin Chinese), but there is no direct evidence to link them. Furthermore, the circumstances, both at the time and since then, actually make that connection unlikely. For anyone interested, I can provide the background information, though not proof, that strongly suggests Uechi had a teacher different from Zhou. Cezar Borkowski kindly explained that he received the video from the now deceased Chinen Shinzo, a Gojuryu instructor at Jundokan in Okinawa. The significance of this video lies in the questions it raises about the location, videographer, performer, and even the approximate date it was taken. Answers to even some of these questions would make it possible to access sources in Fuzhou that could confirm who was Uechi Kanbun’s teacher, whether actually Zhouzihe/Shushiwa or someone else. Do you or anyone you know have other information about this video?

Thank you. I was given this clip by the late Chinen Shinzo sensei, about 30 years ago. He was a good friend of Kishaba sensei.

Hi. I have to agree with Oshiro Sensei, this is not Kishaba Chogi Sensei. This is an older gentleman that trained with Kishaba Chokei Sensei in karate initially at Shinzato Katsuhiko's house (mid-80s), then at the dance studio we were using for a time and then at the place that became Kishaba dojo (early-90s) where both Chokei Sensei and Chogi Sensei taught. He was a nice guy and did look a bit like Chogi sensei but certainly didn't move like Chogi sensei. I'm sorry that I don't remember his name.

I’m sure he has the whole thing, he’s just not posting it. He probably thinks that people will learn the whole sequence from the footage, and that threatens his “ownership” of it. Unfortunately, the karate world is full of these petty and insecure types.
