Im 51 seconds in. I was looking for a video that I can send another coach to help her with setting her approach. The distance of the approach is based on stride length. Even the youngest jumpers will vary in stride length. Let me continue the video though. So far so good for what I need. *********** Yes, age is a guide for steps but no much on getting to speed. More so the stress of turning horizontal force into vertical force the longer the approach. Also, whether a young jumper is decelerating on their approach. Good video nephew.

That sounds like “Shin Splints” but I’d talk with a Physical therapist to get a better understanding. Try wearing shoes with a bit more cushioning on them and ice

as someone extremely unaware of where any parts of my body are in space... i don't think i got much from this video. i just have a bad back and want to do only lower body exercises and i remember when i was a kid i used to love sprinting from one side of my house to the other... it was a fun game for me. i just want to recreate that a bit as my main exercise. i don't even have a goal to be fast. i just want to burst into a run, jump over a thing or 2 and maybe weave around something and stop. fully catch my breath and do it again but in reverse. the only reason i am bothering to watch any videos is i am trying to understand how to not injure myself and maybe an extra exercise or 2 that helps improve the safety aspect of doing sprints.

Well that was really helpful - just what I needed. Masters athlete here, and planning on first heptathlon in three weeks, but couldn't practice long jump yet (injury and practical reasons). Great cues to follow, easy and logical explanations on the drills, well done! Thank you!

One of the best sprint videos for novices I've seen on KZbin--thoroughly explaining and demonstrating the proper fundamentals of frontside and backside mechanics needed to increase speed. And yes, a major key component to running fast is to be as bouncy as possible.

@JumpersUniversity 29 күн бұрын
You will prob need to shift it closer depending on the athletes speed and skill level. Just make sure they’re taking the right amount of steps in between.
@ok1nawab0y
@ok1nawab0y 29 күн бұрын
Looks like 4 total steps between the big hurdles? 2 run-up, 1 penultimate, 1 takeoff. Correct? Other than cuing the athletes to hold the knee drive, are you providing any other coaching cues during this drill?
@JumpersUniversity
@JumpersUniversity 29 күн бұрын
Stay tall, block the knee drive at 90 degrees. Not going for height, going for efficiency. (and the mini hurdles are there so they have to have high heel recovery and continue though to their penultimate step with high velocity sprinting mechanics)

Awesome thank you. And between each hurdle I’m going to guess about 6ft apart each? Also How would you adjust this drill for high school girls?
@JumpersUniversity
@JumpersUniversity Ай бұрын
@@ok1nawab0y yes, and I would just shift it in slightly depending on their speed and skill level. Remind the athletes that it’s not so much about them getting their feet to land perfectly on the mat, it’s about setting up proper body position and eye placement coming into the takeoff. My college girls also were doing this with the males and I just kept it at the same setup. Sometimes they were on sometimes they went but they used the first mat to set them selves up and get into proper position.
