My father just gave me his. 2004 Passat 1.8T 5 speed with 4 motion. I've already kicked in about $3,500 for new pads and rotors, cleaned out any oil sludge, new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, camshaft sensor, battery, serpentine belts. He keeps saying it could be a collectible or of value by people that know - because it is very rare that it is a 5 speed and AWD.

Your father is right! There are an extremely small amount of 1.8t 5peed 4 motion Passats ever sold in the states, and a good majority of them ended up in scrapyards by now. Keep it around!

I really appreciate you doing this teardown to see the failures so we all can learn from it. As someone who plans to do a VR build in a mk4 at some point it’s great to see what’s goin on when they fail to know what to look for. My comfort zone is the 1.8t (I have 3 and love them) but I’ll likely build from scratch with selected second hand parts and refresh all consumables to drop into 1 of my 3 if any die. Cheers 🤙🏽

Actually besides the rust on the fenders and trunk it really don’t have much rust anywhere on the body. Quite a clean car for its age tbh

I am loving this project. Don’t lose interest now that you have a new dub… I’m here for the long burn on this baby. What a sick build man! I myself want to find a 12V to rebuild on a stand and eventually swap into a mk4 like this and then turbo it. Cheers!

I have to say what you performed here is a dying art and you need to continue the good work and teach others! That said, any mk4/b5 VAG car with 5speed 02j and 1.8t is a good buy if it didn’t jump timing. Even then for the right price it would be worth rebuilding the top end with junkyard parts (lots of good 1.8ts end up in junkyards because the shitty auto transmissions fail and it’s too expensive to swap if you don’t work on cars yourself). I am in the middle of a manual swap on an otherwise stellar mk4 GTI with 1.8t. It’s got just the average 20 year old car plastic/rubber and consumable part problems. I’ve been slowly replacing all that stuff and deleting what I can to make it reliable for another handful of years so my oldest son can learn to drive on it without having to go into debt (the way prices of running used cars are going 🤬). Chances are he’ll crash it anyway so this a good learning experience for us both. 🤙🏽

Nice! I’m not a big fan of the 1.8t overall but I also understand how reliable and fuel efficient they can be when properly maintained. I’ve had quite a few of them now in the b5 chassis but this is my first manual b5 and I’ll say so far I like it a lot more that the zf auto’s. I have an update coming soon on the car and what I’ve done to it so far!

@@rileykepler1393 yeah with the 02J 5 speed these things get 35mpg and are super reliable!!! I also love how dang simple they are and how much space is in the bay on mk4. I never have to pull the bumper and core support unless I need to replace the radiator! That said with the auto-tragic they are super boring to drive. My main build is stage 2 tuned (they have forged pistons and crank stock) and it RIPS! I plan to tear it down and do forged rods and refresh the whole thing some day… FMIC first though…. Looking forward to all your projects! Stay older VW heavy and you’ll keep me watchin!

Exactly. Comparing a discreet gpu to a processor. That said, the video does show the 10X performance gain Nvidia promised with this card over other IGPUs. No thumbs down for the video though because he's just a kid getting facts wrong, but the intention was good.
