They played with the imagery (the white robes!) and sounds of cults (voice and instrument repetition and mantra-like lyrics) so convincingly that I was, when they first appeared, wondering if they were some kind of a religious cult, albeit one with remarkable musicality, something nearly unheard of in a cult! The choral structure of the ensemble (can we really call them a band? I think not) is something I remember thinking would be fantastic if it caught on. Alas, it did not! In the years since, choral works have only grown more distant from the musical zeitgeist. It's hard to believe that it's been nearly a quarter-century since I first heard them on Weekend Edition, Saturday with Scott Simon so listening to their ethereal, haunting strains is now to also enter one of those musical time-warps, as well, hard to place in time and space...

Mm-mm, mm-mmh I'm watchin' the tide Sittin', sittin' in the sand Waitin' for the sun to rise Creepin', creepin' behind the mountain Holy water has nothin' on this And the world will go on when I cease to exist Every wave that breaks is a second that I cannot replace And when I feel like this I wish, I wish I Could shut it off Mm-mm, mm-mmh Why would I live life Worried, worried all the time? It shouldn't be a surprise It's easy, easy to be terrified Oh, believe me, I've tried everything I'm still sittin' on needles and pins Every breath I take is a second that I cannot replace And when I feel like this I wish, I wish I Could shut it off Mm-mm, mm-mmh Every breath I take is a second that I cannot replace And when I feel like this I wish, I wish I Could shut it off

This song reminds me of someone I loved and didn’t quite love me back. Django, I hope you’re ok wherever you are. I wear that ring sometimes.

Lyrics, because I couldn't find them anywhere (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)... Everybody knows, that my heart grows Deeper than the water Today's the day I left, all my secrets Deeper underwater But I will make a road map, out of your heart I will make the road map out of our hearts Everybody knows, that my heart grows deeper than the water Who's moment are you? You are losing all, all of your worth. But I will make a road map out of your heart I will make a road map out of our hearts I will make a road map Everybody knows

I Can't tell if taking this down will help my situation more or leaving it up. Who, with the kind of institutional power it would take to free me is going to watch it? I'm still going to have to put shackles on my hands and feet and go up to a courthouse, just because white supremacy gives me the worst anxiety possible. White coat syndrome is a humbling but harrowing experience. you lose friends. you lose family. and you guys didn't create this, you recorded it. So by saying it was created by you, after just capturing some of my essence, you are complicit in a system that aims to constrict and filter through blackness, taking the parts that look good or bad (whichever suits your mission or goal) and leave the rest (in this case, my conscious body and mind) to wither away without pay, without representation, without credit. shame on you. contact me to have this video archived for when I hit my next court case that I got from letting you record this without explanation that I would then be subjected to the boston/massachusetts medical complex for 5+ years. contact me ASAP, NPR. You were supposed to be one of the good ones.
