Hi, we are planning to go to queenstown nz soon and i have watched your videos of the 3 hotels you have stayed in. I wonder which one of them is the best? we have booked at crowne plaza but thinking of changing it to holiday inn express as its cheaper and newer. which one do you recommend? TIA
@TheAbbottAbodeАй бұрын
I actually think that the Holiday Inn Express is newer and more comfortable but the location of the Crowne Plaza is more central!

This was great to watch. Reminded me of when West Auckland had orchards and vineyards everywhere. We used to go get apples and other fruit from them as kids. Now they have all disappeared, and been covered in with housing and industrial estates. So many people these days wouldn't even know where their fruit comes from. Did you make an apple pie ?

They're not too bad. Have you been there? How do you think it compares to NZ?
@mrpaisleyshirt4 ай бұрын
@@TheAbbottAbode Never been there I'm afraid, but from your video it looks as if people care about keeping the city presentable. I suppose you have to experience a place by actually being there to know though. I just wish councils, and more of the general public in NZ put a bit more effort into maintaining and keeping our towns and cities tidier. I wonder what some tourists think sometimes, when I see the state of places here. But again, every country has it's grotty areas.
@TheAbbottAbode4 ай бұрын
@@mrpaisleyshirt I could go on and on about NZ not quite as nice as being portrayed by tourism! I wonder what else the taxpayers pay for other than the never ending roadworks. When we arrived in NZ several years ago, I mentioned to a born and bred Kiwi that I expected NZ to be more clean and green like portrayed by the tourism ads! They got offended. Maybe I was too direct. 😅 The other thing I've noticed is how divided pakeha and tangata whenua are. This is to the point they have different accents and their experiences are a word apart. I was naive to think that they just mingled together. I'm sure there are some that do, but not once you really get to meet people. These were some of things I noticed when we first arrived that wasn't quite what we expected. It's getting better and people try to make changes, but it doesn't last long.
@mrpaisleyshirt4 ай бұрын
@@TheAbbottAbode Yes I quite agree with you. I can appreciate how difficult and awkward it would have felt when you were trying to adjust to life here. I really do believe it can be a great culture shock for people arriving here from other countries. I hope you guys are managing okay anyway. I think we've just got to find a place where we can feel comfortable and safe. That's all I want anyway. I was born and grew up in Auckland, but I'm over that place now.
@TheAbbottAbode4 ай бұрын
@@mrpaisleyshirt There's pros and cons to everywhere. Different regions within NZ have a different "culture" to it too! If we did leave NZ, there's a lot we'd miss about it. NZ will always be special to us. Though sometimes we feel we have outgrown the place. It's hard to decide whether we really want to settle long term given we don't have family in NZ if that makes sense! I should make a video on our culture shock experience when we first got here, and also the reverse culture shock when we've traveled back!
